• Today's AI still has major flaws. Wales tested using ChatGPT to write Wikipedia articles and found the results were "terrible" - full of plausible-sounding mistakes and made-up sources. He calls the current state of AI a "mess."

• However, Wales believes superhuman AI could be possible in 50 years. While today's AI is messy, he thinks tools that surpass human intelligence are achievable in the distant future.

• He also commented about the recent drama over AI startup OpenAI's CEO, saying it is a reminder that even leading AI companies need to prioritize good governance from the start.
