Which AI tools do student teachers use?
505 student teachers were surveyed regarding their usage of AI tools for writing.
ChatGPT is the most popular tool, with only one participant unfamiliar with it. Over half of the participants use ChatGPT several times a semester, weekly, or daily.
In contrast, other tools are less popular; only DeepL and Grammarly are used several times per semester by at least 15% of participants, while other tools are rarely used.

OpenAI Developing Project 'Strawberry' to Advance AI Reasoning 🍓
According to Reuters, OpenAI is currently working on a new initiative called "Project Strawberry."
Details:
This project is speculated to be an advanced iteration of the infamous Q* Project that was leaked last year.
Project Strawberry appears to be a model or system designed for enhanced reasoning capabilities, including the ability to search the web autonomously to gather information needed for solving complex problems.
Strawberry aims to perform "deep research" by autonomously and reliably navigating the internet without explicit user instructions to provide more thorough and accurate responses.
Currently, ChatGPT can search the web for specific details but often requires direct prompts to look beyond its training data for live information.
As a research project, it is uncertain if Project Strawberry will ever become a standalone product. However, the insights gained from this research are likely to influence future AI models and product updates from OpenAI.

Meta to Release Their Largest Model Yet
Meta is gearing up to release the largest version of its open-source language model Llama 3, on July 23.
Details:
The new model will have 405 billion parameters, a substantial leap from the previous versions, which came in 8B and 70B sizes. This boost is expected to translate into overall better performance, especially when handling complicated tasks.
Unlike its predecessors, this version will be multimodal, capable of processing both images and text.
Meta will release the model as open source, including the weights. This means the model’s code will be available for anyone to use, allowing developers to customize it for their needs.
At a time when companies like Google and OpenAI are closely guarding their proprietary technologies, Meta is choosing an open-source approach to attract developers and researchers to their model.
