AI TALENT WARS

Elon Musk Boosts AI Engineer Pay in 'Craziest Talent War' 💸

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is taking drastic measures to keep his top AI engineers from defecting to OpenAI.

Details:

  • Musk announced that Tesla is significantly increasing compensation for its engineering AI team, contingent on meeting progress milestones.

  • This comes after reports that Tesla machine learning scientist Ethan Knight became the third engineer to leave Tesla for xAI.

  • Musk confirmed Knight was poached by OpenAI, saying "it was either xAI or them" - indicating he had to pay extra to retain Knight for his xAI company

  • “They have been aggressively recruiting Tesla engineers with massive compensation offers and have unfortunately been successful in a few cases” he said in response to a post in X.

  • He described the talent war for AI experts as "the craziest talent war I've ever seen"

As companies race to build the next breakthrough in AI, the ability to attract and retain skilled engineers has never been more critical.

SUNO AI

Suno AI Accused of Copyright Infringement

In an article for Music Business Worldwide, AI expert Ed Newton-Rex has leveled serious allegations against the music AI company Suno. Newton-Rex claims Suno may have trained its generative AI models on copyrighted music without the consent or compensation of the original artists.

Details:

  • Newton-Rex extensively tested Suno's platform and found numerous examples of AI-generated songs bearing striking similarities to well-known hits.

  • He cited parallels between Suno's output and popular songs by artists like Eminem, Ed Sheeran, ABBA, Oasis, and Blink-182 in terms of style, melody, harmony, and instrumentation.

  • While Suno blocks prompts containing artist names, Newton-Rex discovered that small misspellings could bypass the filter.

Newton-Rex argued this high degree of similarity strongly suggests Suno's models were trained on the original copyrighted recordings. Suno has not commented on its training data or responded to these claims.

How to modify images directly in ChatGPT

OpenAI added editing to Dall-E 3 a few days ago. This new feature lets you modify anything on the image you generate directly in ChatGPT.

To use this new feature just follow these steps:

  1. Generate your image

Write a prompt and generate an image as you normally would. Once the image is generated, click on it to access the second interface.

  1. Add an element

Click on the "Select" option at the top of your image

Select the part of the image where you want to add an element
Then enter your prompt:

An example could be "Add bows", then just wait a few seconds and see the result:

  1. Modify the image

You can modify parts of the image by following the same steps as before.

For instance, if you select the dog's eyes and add the prompt 'make its eyes green,' ChatGPT will take care of applying the change.

  1. Check the final prompt

ChatGPT updates the image prompt in real time as you make changes, and you can review them by clicking on the 'i' icon.

You can save this prompt to generate a similar image later.

In an interview with Bloomberg, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan expressed that if OpenAI had used YouTube videos to train its text-to-video AI model Sora, it would be a "clear violation" of the platform's policies. Mohan's comments come after OpenAI CTO Mira Murati acknowledged uncertainty around the sources used to train Sora, including the potential use of YouTube content.

Google is exploring the possibility of introducing a paywall for certain generative AI-powered features within its search engine. If implemented, this move would make some of Google's core products available only to paying customers, representing a significant change to the tech giant's business strategy.
