Major Tech Firms Trained AI Using "Stolen" YouTube Content

A recent investigation by Proof News, in collaboration with Wired, has revealed that major tech companies have been using YouTube videos to train their AI systems without permission.

Details:

  • A dataset of subtitles from over 170,000 YouTube videos across more than 48,000 channels was used by companies like Apple, Anthropic, Nvidia, and Salesforce.

  • This public dataset, called The Pile, was created by the non-profit AI research organization EleutherAI.

  • It includes subtitles from videos by popular creators like MrBeast and Marques Brownlee, as well as from clips by major news outlets like ABC News, the BBC, and The New York Times.

  • The use of YouTube content (including transcripts) for AI training violates YouTube’s terms of service. Both YouTube CEO Neal Mohan and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have pointed this out.

AI companies are rarely transparent about the data used in their systems, and whether this will have legal consequences remains unclear.

You can check if your favorite YouTuber’s content appears in the dataset using Proof News’ interactive lookup tool.

AI RESEARCH

AI Tool Outperforms Standard Tests in Predicting Alzheimer’s Disease Progress

Researchers at Cambridge University have made a significant breakthrough in Alzheimer’s research with a new AI model that outperforms current standard tests in predicting the progression of the disease.

Details:

  • The AI model was trained using cognitive tests and structural MRI data from 400 individuals in the U.S., and its accuracy was validated with 600 U.S. patients and 900 from the UK and Singapore.

  • The AI tool correctly identified 82% of patients who would develop Alzheimer's within three years and 81% of those who would not.

  • The model was three times more accurate than current clinical assessments, and it also allowed to group patients into three groups: stable, slow progression, and fast progression to Alzheimer's.

This innovative AI model represents a promising advancement in Alzheimer’s care, offering more precise predictions and enabling earlier, more effective interventions. The research team believes it could be introduced into clinical practice very soon.

AI Tutorial

How to create interactive dashboards from PDFs using AI

  1. Go to Claude.ai and log in.

  2. Select Claude 3.5 Sonnet as your model.

  3. Make sure you have the "Artifacts" feature enabled

  1. Click on "Add content" and upload your pdf

  2. Add this prompt

Create an interactive PDF dashboard to help me view, test, and learn this information & make it more visually appealing.
  1. Claude will then generate code for your PDF dashboard. Once it finishes, you’ll be able to preview and use this dashboard.

*Note: You might get an error when Claude is writing the code, but this is easy to fix: just copy and paste the error into Claude, and it will fix it for you.

  1. You can make additional changes, like adding extra tabs to the dashboard by prompting Claude. For example, you can say, "Add a test tab where I can test my knowledge with a 10-question quiz."

Claude will keep the same structure; it will only add to the code it already made.

  1. Finally, you can download the dashboard by clicking on the download icon in the bottom right corner.
