Emad Mostaque has resigned as CEO and from the board of directors at gen AI company Stability AI, the startup announced late Friday.

Details:

  • Mostaque helped lead Stability to prominence in 2022 as one of the companies driving the generative AI boom with its text-to-image models.

  • However, the founder has faced scrutiny over past claims, while Stability itself has grappled with reported corporate dysfunction and high-profile departures.

  • The board has appointed COO Shan Shan Wong and CTO Christian Laforte as interim co-CEOs to fill Mostaque's roles.

There were rumors last year that Stability was exploring a potential sale, with investor Coatue allegedly pushing for Mostaque's ouster. It remains to be seen whether this change in leadership will effectively address the company’s long-standing problems.
