Samsung Bets on AI to Boost Flagship Phones 📱
Samsung has introduced a multitude of new AI features in its latest flagship Galaxy S24 phone series. These new AI features will leverage the power of Google's Gemini models.
Details:
Samsung’s new Live Translate feature enables real-time translation between 13 languages during calls and texts, similar to Google Translate
Chat Assist reviews messages and makes tone suggestions beyond grammar/spelling checks
Enhanced AI photo and video editing tools like object removal, background changes, and auto slow-motion video generation
Samsung, in collaboration with Google, brings two AI search updates. 'Circle to Search' lets users search on-screen without leaving their app, while AI-powered multisearch allows camera-based queries for comprehensive results
Samsung is placing a significant bet on infusing its premium Galaxy lineup with AI innovations. This move aims to rekindle enthusiasm, drive demand, and ultimately help the company reclaim the top spot in the phone market, which the company recently lost to Apple after a 12-year reign.
AI IN LITERATURE
Award-Winning Author Admits ChatGPT Helped Write Novel
In a first for the literary world, Rie Kudan, the winner of Japan's prestigious Akutagawa Prize, has admitted to using ChatGPT to write around 5% of her futuristic novel “Tokyo-to Dojo-to” (“Sympathy Tower Tokyo”).
Details:
Kudan believes the AI helped her realize her creative potential and says she made “active use” of ChatGPT and other generative AI tools while writing
She estimates directly lifting about 5% of text from AI-generated sentences
The AI also served as a sounding board - Kudan says she often confides private thoughts to ChatGPT that inspire dialogue
Her outlook aligns with Stephen King’s view of AI as a complement rather than a threat
The revelations highlight how quickly AI is permeating creative fields. While a sprinkling of AI-written text enabled Kudan’s victory, could future award winners lean even more heavily on generative writing tools?

Altman adresses AGI: More Optimism, Less Alarmism
Source: Euronews
At Davos, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman struck a more optimistic tone on AI safety than in the past, predicting that AGI will bring continuous, not sudden, change. Though Altman previously warned of AI’s “grievous harm” potential, this week he forecasted that the upcoming AGI will transform the world and jobs far less than anticipated. Rather than ringing fresh alarms, Altman’s latest comments raise hopes that AI’s rise may prove more benign than tech leaders have feared.
