Samsung Is Leaning on AI to Power Device Sales
Samsung unveiled a range of new devices at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, emphasizing the role of AI in enhancing product functionality and user experience.
The tech giant introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and new wearables, including the Samsung Ring, underscoring its strategy to integrate AI across its product lineup.
Here are the key AI announcements from the event:
Galaxy Ring: Samsung introduced a new AI-enabled smart ring capable of tracking health, fitness, and sleep data. It provides an "Energy Score" to estimate daily readiness, and unlike competitors like Oura, it doesn't require a subscription. The Galaxy Ring also includes FDA-approved sleep apnea detection and diabetes tracking.
Galaxy Watch7: The latest Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with redesigned bioactive sensors, offering similar health features to the Galaxy Ring.
Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6: These smartphones feature new Galaxy AI capabilities like:
Full integration with the Google Gemini app
Sketch to Image: Turn sketches into sophisticated art
Circle to Search: Recognize objects or text and get instant search results.
AI-assisted photo and video editing
Real-time call translations
Suggested replies for texting, and more
Galaxy Buds: The next iteration of Galaxy Buds features AI enhancements such as adaptive noise control and siren detection, along with functions like Interpreter, which translates conversations in real time so you can hear the translated speech directly through your earbuds.
By embedding AI across its range of devices, Samsung aims to enhance user experiences and boost its device sales as Apple prepares to launch its AI platform.

OpenAI and Los Alamos National Laboratory Join Forces
OpenAI and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) are collaborating to revolutionize bioscientific research.
Details:
Los Alamos National Laboratory is a leading U.S. lab known for its nuclear weapons research.
The partnership focuses on exploring how advanced multimodal AI models can be safely integrated into laboratory environments to advance life science research.
This initiative aligns with a White House Executive Order that mandates the evaluation of cutting-edge AI models by U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories, emphasizing their potential applications in biology.
Mira Murati, CTO of OpenAI, described the partnership as a "natural evolution of our mission to advance scientific research while understanding and mitigating risk."
While the potential for misuse in developing biological weapons remains a concern, the partnership could be a significant step toward harnessing AI for scientific research.
