OPENAI

Sam Altman Seeks Billions to Build an AI Chip Empire ๐Ÿ’ธ

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is spearheading an ambitious new venture to build a global network of semiconductor factories tailored for training and running artificial intelligence models. According to recent reports by Bloomberg and Financial Times, OpenAI aims to raise billions in funding over the coming years.

Details:

  • Altman worries AI chip supply won't meet demand by decade's end as AI becomes more widespread

  • He is in discussions with Middle Eastern investors and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) regarding a chip manufacturing partnership

  • This chip venture would supply chips to OpenAI as the main customer

By eliminating potential chip bottlenecks, the new venture would ensure OpenAI has the supply to match its burgeoning appetite for AI computing power in the years ahead.

AI IN ART

Artists can now 'poison' their pics to confuse AI

Nightshade 1.0 is an AI-based tool designed to help artists protect their artwork from AI.

Details:

  • Nightshade operates in conjunction with Glaze, another AI tool designed for artwork protection. Glaze employs invisible pixels in artworks, misleading AI systems into misinterpreting the art's style.

  • Nightshade, named after a poisonous plant, builds upon Glaze's functionality. It aims to confuse AI models by altering how they perceive images, potentially causing them to recognize an entirely different object.

  • According to developers, it may require less than 100 manipulated images to significantly corrupt an AI image model.

This tool was created in response to many artists who object to their art being used to train models.

Dean.bot was created by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Matt Krisiloff and Jed Somers, who started a super PAC named We Deserve Better supporting Phillips, ahead of the New Hampshire primary. By using OpenAI's platform to essentially campaign politically, the bot violated newly adopted policies.
