PERPLEXITY

Perplexity takes on ChatGPT and Gemini with new Deep Research AI

Perplexity has entered the competitive world of AI-powered research with its new Deep Research tool, powered by the Deepseek-R1 reasoning model.

Details:

  • Perplexity’s Deep Research can autonomously research a topic, process hundreds of sources, and generate a report within one to two minutes.

  • According to CEO Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity can "easily" offer the service at "10-100x lower pricing" than the competition. While OpenAI charges $200 per month for 100 queries, Perplexity offers 500 queries per day for $20 per month.

  • The feature is currently available to everyone via web browsers, with plans to expand to iOS, Android, and Mac soon. Free users have daily query limits.

  • Just as with OpenAI's and Gemini's alternatives, Perplexity's reports are not 100% reliable, as they may contain inaccuracies, and users are responsible for verifying the results.

While Perplexity’s competitors scramble to justify their premium pricing, thousands of users are already testing its Deep Research capabilities. The company aims to accelerate adoption among those who previously saw these AI tools as out of reach.
