OpenAI Set to Launch AI Agent Tool to Automate Tasks for Users in January

OpenAI is gearing up to launch an autonomous AI agent named "Operator" in January.

Details:

  • The "Operator" can independently control computers and perform tasks, such as coding and booking travel arrangements, on behalf of users.

  • OpenAI plans to release it as a research preview and through its API.

  • In addition to "Operator," the company is reportedly working on other AI-agent-related projects, including a tool that can perform tasks in a web browser.

Leading AI companies view autonomous agents as the next breakthrough product. In a recent Reddit AMA, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted that "the next giant breakthrough will be agents," while Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil predicted agentic systems will go mainstream in 2025.

OpenAI To Present Plans for U.S. AI Strategy and an Alliance To Compete With China

OpenAI is set to present a comprehensive plan for the U.S. AI strategy and an alliance, aiming to strengthen national capabilities and compete with China’s advancements.

Details:

  • OpenAI's official “blueprint for U.S. AI infrastructure” suggests creating AI economic zones “to give states incentives to speed up permitting and approvals for AI infrastructure.”

  • The plan includes forming a North American AI alliance to strengthen global competitiveness against China, with potential expansion to include other regions.

  • The company stated that investing in U.S. AI will create tens of thousands of jobs, boost GDP, modernize the grid with nuclear power, establish new chip manufacturing facilities, and attract billions in global investment.

Now that Donald Trump is President-elect, OpenAI has outlined its plans to collaborate with the new administration on AI policy, with major changes ahead, including Trump’s plan to repeal President Biden’s executive order on AI.

How to Install ChatGPT as an App on Windows 11 and 10

Here’s how you can install and run ChatGPT as an app on your Windows 11 and 10 devices from the Chrome browser.

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Go to the official ChatGPT website.

  3. Sign in with your account (optional) or continue as a guest.

  4. Click the three dots in the top right corner to open the "menu."

  5. Choose “Save and share” and then select “Install page as app…”

  6. Click "Install" when the "Install this page as an app" prompt appears.

  7. The ChatGPT app will launch as a Progressive Web App (PWA), creating a shortcut on your desktop for easy access.

If you wish to uninstall the ChatGPT app from Chrome, follow these instructions:

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Go to "chrome://apps." settings page

  3. Right-click the ChatGPT app, then select "Uninstall" from the menu.
