Former OpenAI Safety Head Jan Leike Joins Anthropic 🔥

Jan Leike, former head of super AI alignment at OpenAI, has joined Anthropic, one of OpenAI's strongest competitors outside of Google, after leaving OpenAI citing safety concerns.

Details:

• Leike left OpenAI over allegations its safety processes lagged behind its "shiny products". He announced his departure from OpenAI on May 15, just days prior to the company disbanding the superalignment group that he co-led.

• Anthropic was co-founded by former OpenAI employees Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei, who left the company in objection to its more commercial focus after Microsoft got involved in 2019

• Leike intends to carry forward the superalignment mission at Anthropic, which refers to efforts aimed at ensuring that advanced artificial intelligence systems align with human values and goals.

Leike is part of a notable group in the industry that considers companies are moving too quickly in releasing powerful AI products to the public without adequately considering potential societal harm.

Copilot AI Assistant Now Available On Telegram 📱

Microsoft has launched an official Copilot bot within the popular messaging app Telegram, allowing users to search, ask questions, and converse with the AI assistant directly within the app.

Details:

• Copilot for Telegram is a free beta available for Telegram users on mobile and desktop platforms.

• Users can chat with the Copilot bot (@CopilotOfficialBot) like a regular conversation within Telegram.

• The bot can suggest movies, generate workout routines, assist with coding tasks, translate conversations, and search the internet for quick facts.

• For now, Copilot for Telegram is limited to text-based requests and cannot generate images.

• There is a daily limit of 30 back-and-forth exchanges between the user and the bot.

With the integration of Copilot, Telegram joins other messaging platforms like Meta's apps (Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram) and Google Messages, which have recently added AI assistants for in-app conversations.

Anthropic has launched a new tool for creating optimized prompts tailored to your specific goals.

Here's how to use it:

1. Go to Anthropic’s Console and sign up or log in.

2. Choose the ‘Generate a prompt’ option to open the prompt creation interface.

3. Enter your goal or task in the text box provided and click ‘Generate Prompt’ to get a custom prompt.

4. Click ‘Start Editing’, fill in any specific details for the {variables}, and then click ‘Run’.

Former OpenAI board member Helen Toner details reasons for Sam Altman’s firing

Yesterday, we reported the details Helen Toner and Tasha McCauley provided about the incident in a guest article for The Economist, but it didn’t end there. Helen Toner also made an appearance in a podcast on Tuesday, where she spoke more about the events inside the company leading up to the firing.

Toner revealed that the board was kept in the dark about major decisions, such as the release of ChatGPT, which they learned about on Twitter. Additionally, she claimed that Altman failed to disclose his ownership of the OpenAI startup fund to the board, further exacerbating tensions within the company's governance structure.
