• The AI landscape was shaken this week by the release of DeepSeek R1, a powerful new model that rivals U.S. giants despite using much less powerful hardware. The launch sent shockwaves through the market, particularly impacting Nvidia.

• As it turns out, 8 of the 10 biggest single-day swings have involved Nvidia, with only two exceptions: Meta (after the "metaverse" announcement) and Amazon.

OpenAI Launches o3-mini, Its Latest 'Reasoning' Model 🧠

OpenAI has officially launched its latest reasoning model, o3-mini, today, and for the first time, free users will have access to a version of it as well.

Details:

• The o3-mini model is 24% faster than o1-mini and provides more accurate answers, particularly excelling at scientific tasks related to STEM (Science, Mathematics, and Programming).

• The model introduces three "reasoning-effort" settings—low, medium, and high—allowing developers to balance speed and accuracy, with the high setting being ideal for coding and logic.

• The free o3-mini version in ChatGPT is set to "medium" to provide a balanced trade-off between speed and accuracy, with only paying users able to select the high version. Only Pro users will get unlimited access to o3-mini.

If you're a free user and want to see if o3-mini is worth the hype, simply click on "Reason" in the message textbox or regenerate a response. For now, OpenAI has not specified the message limit for the new model for free users.
