OpenAI's DALL-E Now Offers a Text-Based Image Editor π¨
Source: OpenAI
OpenAI has rolled out a new text-based image editor for DALL-E 3 that operates right within the ChatGPT interface. This allows users to precisely edit and modify AI-generated images using simple text commands.
The key features of the new DALL-E 3 image editor:
Users can add, remove, or update specific elements of an image by selecting the desired area with a tool
Text prompts in the ChatGPT window then instruct DALL-E on the changes to make within the selection
Supports editing on both web and mobile versions of ChatGPT
Examples include adding objects, removing subjects, altering expressions/colors, and more
Users can also type full editing commands without a selection for broader changes
A support page contains all this information, although OpenAI has not officially announced it yet. As per usual, the company is expected to roll out the new functionality gradually.
AI RESEARCH
Researchers Warn Against Relying on AI Text Detectors in Higher Education
A new study has raised serious concerns about the accuracy and potential misuse of AI text detection tools increasingly being adopted to combat academic dishonesty involving AI writing assistants.
Details:
The researchers tested 6 leading commercial AI text detectors on 805 text samples.
The tools were discovered to exhibit a low average accuracy of just 39.5% in detecting AI-generated text. This accuracy further decreased to 17.4% when texts were slightly manipulated by intentionally adding spelling and grammar errors.
Copyleaks showed the highest accuracy but also falsely flagged 50% of human texts as AI-generated.
Due to these limitations, the researchers strongly advise against educational institutions relying on these AI text detection methods to enforce academic integrity policies, as they may lead to false accusations.

OpenAI is gradually enabling access to ChatGPT without the need for registration. However, users without accounts will have certain limitations, including the inability to save or share chat histories, use custom instructions, or access features tied to persistent accounts. Additionally, the registration-free version will have slightly more restrictive content policies. Users can still opt out of data collection for model training purposes regardless of having an account or not.
