OpenAI Launches New Coding-Focused GPT-4.1 Models

OpenAI has introduced GPT-4.1, a successor to the GPT-4o multimodal AI model, boasting an even larger context window and improvements in “just about every dimension,” especially in coding and instruction following.
Details:
GPT-4.1 is now available, along with two smaller versions: GPT-4.1 Mini, a more affordable option for developers to experiment with, and GPT-4.1 Nano, an even more lightweight model described as the company’s “smallest, fastest, and cheapest” yet.
These models are aimed at professional developers and are designed to offer higher performance, faster output, and lower costs (GPT-4.1 is 26 percent cheaper than GPT-4o).
All three models can process up to one million tokens of context—the text, images, or videos included in a prompt—far more than GPT-4o’s 128,000-token limit.
The previously released GPT-4.5 Preview will be retired on July 14, 2025, with OpenAI encouraging users to migrate to the new model.
What we can expect next is the debut of OpenAI’s full o3 reasoning model and an o4 mini reasoning model any day now, as the company has delayed the GPT-5 launch to figure out how to 'smoothly integrate everything.'

Google is Trying to Talk to Dolphins Using Pixel Phones and AI

Google, in collaboration with the Wild Dolphin Project (WDP) and Georgia Tech, has developed an AI model named DolphinGemma to analyze and understand the communication patterns of wild Atlantic spotted dolphins.
Details:
This model is trained on decades of audio and video recordings from a dolphin group in the Bahamas, enabling it to convert dolphin sounds into digital format.
It can identify, analyze, and even generate realistic sequences of typical sound patterns like whistles, clicks, and burst pulses.
Researchers are deploying DolphinGemma directly in the field using Google Pixel smartphones to record and analyze data underwater. Simultaneously, the team employs the CHAT system, which associates specially developed artificial whistles with specific objects.
The goal is for dolphins to learn and use these sounds to interact with researchers.
Google plans to release DolphinGemma as an open model in summer 2025, allowing other research teams to use it for analyzing marine mammal communication.

How to use camera filenames to make Midjourney more photorealistic

With the release of Midjourney V7, many users have reported that including a filename from a camera system in the prompt can produce incredible photorealistic AI images.
Go to the Midjourney website and sign in (you can also go to the Discord server).
Start your prompt with: IMG_4532.CR3
Example: IMG_4532.CR3 Willow tree during a storm
You can also use it to generate realistic people
👉 IMG_4532.CR3 casual selfie at [location].

This works because the CR3 file is a RAW image file format created by Canon digital cameras, and CR3 stands for Canon Raw 3. The AI recognizes this, and as a result, it generates a realistic-looking picture.
