OpenAI's DevDay 2024: 4 Major API Updates 🔥

OpenAI announced four major API updates for developers integrating the company’s AI models into their products during the DevDay 2024 event in San Francisco.

Details:

• Model Distillation: A new way to enhance the capabilities of smaller models like GPT-4o mini by fine-tuning them with the outputs of larger models

• Prompt Caching: Enables developers to reuse commonly occurring prompts without paying the full price each time, significantly reducing costs. The API automatically caches prompts and applies a 50% discount for repeated use.

• Vision Fine-Tuning: Developers can now fine-tune models with images in addition to text, improving applications like visual search and medical image analysis.

• Realtime API: Allows developers to build speech-to-speech applications more efficiently using the technology from OpenAI’s recently released advanced voice mode.

These updates are designed to empower developers and entrepreneurs by reducing costs and improving functionality and accessibility.

Microsoft Expands Copilot with Voice and Vision Features

Microsoft is rolling out major updates to its Copilot AI assistant, enhancing it with voice interaction, image analysis, and improved reasoning skills.

Details:

• Microsoft introduces "Copilot Voice," allowing users to interact with the assistant through speech. Users can choose from four different voice options.

• "Discover Cards" suggests topics and features based on user activities across Microsoft services, offering personalized content discovery.

• "Copilot Daily" provides a morning briefing that includes news and weather, read aloud by the user's preferred voice.

• Experimental features in Copilot Labs include "Copilot Vision," which analyzes web pages in real-time, and "Think Deeper," providing detailed answers to complex questions. These are initially available to a limited number of Copilot Pro users in select English-speaking countries.

The new features will be available across iOS, Android, web, and Windows platforms, with WhatsApp also receiving Copilot integration. Initially, the voice feature will be in English, available in select countries. 'Copilot Daily' will launch in the US and UK.
