OpenAI to Take Another Shot at Building Robots 🤯
After shutting down its robotics division in 2020, OpenAI is starting fresh with ambitious plans to build robots "that can actually handle the real world."
Details:
The company plans to build a new team from scratch and is hiring for three key roles: an electronic sensing engineer for robot sensors, a robotics mechanics engineer for components like gearboxes and motors, and a technical project manager to lead development and operations.
OpenAI’s goal is to build robots capable of functioning in messy, unpredictable environments — moving past the limitations of simulations.
Before shutting down, OpenAI’s robotics department had made some impressive achievements. Its Dactyl robot hand made headlines in 2019 by solving a Rubik's Cube single-handedly.
Back in 2020, Wojciech Zaremba, OpenAI's co-founder and head of robotics, said they had shut down its robotics division to focus on LLMs and human feedback training to pursue AGI. It is an interesting turnaround, likely due to the company seeing a business opportunity in the combination of generative AI with robotics.

Qventus Raises $105M to Expand AI Solutions for Healthcare Operations
Qventus has secured $105 million in Series D funding, pushing its valuation above $400 million. Known for its AI tools that streamline hospital operations, Qventus plans to use the funds to expand its offerings and tackle a wider range of healthcare challenges, from surgery scheduling to administrative tasks like discharges and check-ups.
Details:
Qventus raised $105 million in a mix of equity ($85 million) and optional debt ($20 million), with backing from KKR, Bessemer Venture Partners, and key strategic investors like Northwestern Medicine and Allina Health.
Qventus is building more "AI teammates" to address a broader range of healthcare scenarios.
Since its last valuation of $200 million in 2022, Qventus has quadrupled its customer base and tripled its core business, achieving 120% net retention and nearing profitability.
The funding highlights the red-hot interest in AI healthcare, with other companies like Cera, Hippocratic, and Innovaccer also raising significant rounds recently.
