Apple And OpenAI Are Preparing A Major Announcement At WWDC 💥
Apple and OpenAI are reportedly planning a major announcement of their partnership at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
Details:
According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, the two companies are collaborating to integrate OpenAI's technology into iOS 18.
Gurman says Apple does not yet have its own chatbot like ChatGPT or Gemini
Apple’s plans focus primarily on local AI capabilities. We can expect features such as improvements to Siri, automatic summaries of notifications and news articles, and voice memo transcription.
Apple executives acknowledge that the company is behind its rivals in AI, and see the partnership with OpenAI as a short-term solution that will give them the boost they need right now.
All eyes will be on WWDC as Apple aims to regain its innovative edge and catch up in the AI race.

OpenAI Dissolves 'SuperAlignment' Team Focused on Long-term AI Risks

OpenAI has reportedly disbanded its "Superalignment" team dedicated to ensuring the safe development of future high-performance AI systems. According to Bloomberg, the team's work will be integrated into the company's general safety research efforts.

This restructuring comes just a few days after OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever and AI safety researcher Jan Leike, who led the Superalignment team, announced their exits from the company.
Some Superalignment team members are being reassigned to other teams within OpenAI.
In a recent statement, Leike criticized OpenAI's "safety culture and processes" for taking a "backseat to shiny products."
OpenAI's CEO and other leaders have made statements affirming their commitment to AI safety amid the shakeup, but these latest developments seem to indicate that perhaps they consider the risks to have been overestimated.
Meta's chief AI researcher Yann LeCun shared his perspective on the matter: “When you put sufficiently many people in a room together with such a distorted view of reality that they perceive an impending Great Evil, they often fall victim to a spiral of purity that makes them hold more and more extreme beliefs. Pretty soon, they become toxic to the organization that hosts and funds them. They become marginalized and eventually leave.”

OpenAI is removing one of the five voices for its ChatGPT app because it sounded too much like actress Scarlett Johansson's voice. The voice, called "Sky," was originally selected to give ChatGPT a warm, engaging, and trustworthy persona.
Google will invest an additional €1 billion ($1.1 billion) to expand its data center campus in Finland. This aims to drive the growth of Google's AI business in Europe. On top of the Finnish investment, Google announced last month it will build new data centers in the Netherlands and Belgium.
The UK government is opening a US branch of its AI Safety Summit in San Francisco this summer. The move aims to boost Britain's image as a global leader in addressing AI risks. It also increases cooperation with the US as nations compete for AI dominance
South Korea and the UK will host a global AI summit in Seoul this week. This comes as rapid AI advancements since November's first summit leave governments racing to address mounting risks.
Apple has launched a major discount campaign on its official Tmall site in China, offering price cuts up to 2,300 yuan ($318) on some iPhone models. The discounting comes as the company tries to defend its position in the high-end smartphone market, where it faces rising competition from local rivals like Huawei.
