NVIDIA Introduces Jetson Orin Nano, an Affordable AI Supercomputer

Nvidia has introduced the Jetson Orin Nano Super, a compact yet powerful AI supercomputer aimed at developers, hobbyists, and students.

Details:

• Priced at $249, nearly half the cost of its predecessor, which launched at $499.

• The Jetson Orin Nano Super offers a 1.7x boost in generative AI performance and a 70% increase in processing power compared to its predecessor. Nvidia has also increased the memory bandwidth to 102GBps, a 50% improvement.

• It is perfect for tasks such as creating LLM chatbots based on retrieval-augmented generation, building visual AI agents, or deploying AI-powered robots.

The company claims the Jetson Orin Nano Super isn’t just for professionals—it’s built for anyone interested in AI, and its relatively low price compared to most alternatives is set to open up opportunities for more people to experiment with the technology.

OpenAI Brings o1 Reasoning Model to Its API

OpenAI has brought an updated o1 model to its API, adding new features such as function calls, JSON-formatted structured output, and image analysis capabilities.

Details:

• The new o1 model, dubbed "o1-2024-12-17," is a post-trained version of the model released two weeks ago. In addition to overall performance improvements, it is more efficient, using 60% fewer tokens for reasoning tasks compared to o1-preview, making it faster and more cost-effective for users.

• It is now also integrated into ChatGPT. According to the company, user feedback shows consistently higher satisfaction compared to the older model.

• Along with the o1 model upgrades, OpenAI has introduced major price reductions for its audio API and a new fine-tuning method for customizing AI responses, called "Preference Fine-Tuning"

• OpenAI has also expanded its developer tools with new software development kits for Go and Java, adding to its existing support for Python, Node.js, and .NET.
