AI RESEARCH

Researchers Develop AI System That Can Recreate What You See

Researchers from Radboud University in the Netherlands have created an AI system capable of recreating images from brain activity.

Details:

  • The AI system can generate precise reconstructions of what a person is seeing based on their brain activity, as recorded by fMRI scans.

  • The team utilized fMRI scans to record brain activity of three people viewing photographs and direct brain recordings from a macaque monkey looking at AI-generated images.

  • Through continuous learning, the AI system refines its focus on specific brain areas, enhancing the accuracy of image reconstruction.

This technology could have significant implications, from helping stroke victims communicate to potentially interpreting dreams. The research team is optimistic about the potential benefits.

WAYMO

Driverless Robotaxi Gets Pulled Over By The Police

Last month in Phoenix, Arizona, a self-driving Waymo taxi caused quite a stir when it drove into oncoming traffic and initially evaded police attempts to pull it over.

Details:

  • The Waymo electric Jaguar was spotted driving the wrong way and swerving in traffic.

  • Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, only to discover it was a driverless Waymo taxi.

  • Waymo attributed the erratic behavior to “inconsistent construction signage” in the area. Although critics point out that a human driver would have instinctively not driven into oncoming traffic.

  • The incident was resolved within minutes, and the police decided not to ticket the vehicle, despite having the authority to do so in Arizona.

While the clip has been going viral on social media and is mostly enjoyed for its humor, it has also sparked discussions regarding the accountability and regulation of autonomous vehicles.
