DeepMind's New AlphaFold 3 Expands to DNA, RNA Modeling 🧬

Google's DeepMind has launched AlphaFold 3, an AI model that predicts not only the structure of proteins but also the structure of "all life's molecules."

Details:

• Previous versions of AlphaFold only predicted the structures of proteins. AlphaFold 3 goes beyond that by being capable of modeling how proteins interact with other cell structures, including DNA, RNA, and small molecules commonly used in drugs.

• This new iteration is 50% more accurate than previous AlphaFold models.

• DeepMind's AlphaFold Server, powered by AlphaFold 3, is freely available to researchers for academic and noncommercial purposes.

• Isomorphic Labs, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., is already working with pharmaceutical partners to use AlphaFold models for drug discovery programs.

This achievement promises to accelerate research across numerous scientific fields, from medicine and drug development to agriculture and materials science.

OpenAI Introduces 'Model Spec' to Explore Ideal AI Behavior

OpenAI has released the first version of its "Model Spec" - a document that specifies desired behavior for AI models.

Details:

• The Model Spec distinguishes between general objectives, rules, and recommended standard behaviors.

• Objectives include assisting end users and benefiting humanity. Rules include following instructions, laws, and protecting privacy. Default behaviors include objectivity and expressing uncertainty.

• The Model Spec will continuously evolve based on research, experience, and public input.

OpenAI is inviting global feedback to collaboratively refine the Model Spec and ignite a public discussion about how AI models should behave. You can submit your comments via OpenAI’s Model Spec feedback form on its website, open till May 22.

How to use the new Midjourney Web

The Midjourney Web is now open to nearly everyone, enabling you to create AI-generated images through a simple web interface. Here's how to get started:

1. Join the Midjourney Discord Server if you haven't already.

*Note: To access the Alpha version of Midjourney Web, you now only need to have generated over 100 images on Discord, compared to the previous requirement of 1000 images.

2. Go to alpha.midjourney.com and sign up or log in with your existing Midjourney credentials.

3. Once you have access, you can start creating images by using the "Imagine" textbox at the top of the page to input your prompt.

4. Adjust parameters to customize your image

5. Click the ‘Generate’ button

6. Once the images are ready, you can view them on the same page or in the 'Create' tab. You can also download them; once you do, it will give you the four images in this format:

OpenAI is exploring the possibility of generating NSFW content, including explicit material, extreme violence, and profanity, through its API and ChatGPT in age-appropriate contexts. The company wants to give users the flexibility to use the services as they see fit, as long as they follow the usage guidelines.

TikTok is about to start labeling your AI-generated content

TikTok announced on Thursday that it will automatically label content generated by AI tools from external platforms like OpenAI's DALL·E 3. Whenever creators upload AI-generated visuals to the platform, an "AI-generated" tag will be attached.

Microsoft has a new offline AI service designed for U.S Secret Service

Microsoft has created a generative AI model based on GPT-4 for the U.S. Secret Service that can operate entirely offline. The static model can read files but cannot learn from them, preventing potential leaks of classified information. The system is capable of answering questions and writing code.

The Biden administration announced Microsoft’s $3.3 billion investment in a new AI data center in Racine, Wisconsin on Wednesday. According to the administration, this Microsoft investment will generate 2,300 union construction jobs and 2,000 permanent positions over time.

Meta introduces more generative AI tools for advertisers

Meta is rolling out expanded generative AI tools for advertisers, enabling them to create full new images instead of just modifying backgrounds. Advertisers can now request AI-generated variations that reimagine the entire image, including the subject or advertised product itself.
