Elon Musk's Neuralink has released a video showing a paralyzed patient using the company's brain implant to wirelessly control a computer cursor and play chess with his mind.
Details:
The startup’s first human patient is 29-year-old Noland Arbaugh, paralyzed below the shoulders from a diving accident 8 years ago.
Using only his mind, Arbaugh can move a cursor to play games. He claims the implant allowed him to play Civilization VI for 8 hours straight.
Arbaugh admitted that “there’s still a lot of work to be done” and that the team “have run into some issues.” But he also says that the implant has already changed his life.
The video marks the first time Neuralink has publicly shown a human using its implanted brain-computer interface.
While Neuralink is initially presented as an assistive technology, Musk has expressed his desire for it to eventually be implanted into perfectly healthy individuals to augment their capabilities. A goal that seems to be still too far off.

Intel to Receive $20B From Biden to Boost US Chip Output

President Joe Biden announced a preliminary agreement to provide Intel with nearly $20 billion in grants and loans. This historic investment from the U.S. government marks the largest subsidy for cutting-edge chip production.

Intel is set to receive $8.5 billion in grants and up to $11 billion in loans from the Biden administration.
The funding will be used to build and expand its facilities in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Oregon.
The funding is part of the CHIPS and Science Act, which provides subsidies to entice semiconductor manufacturers to build chips in the U.S.
The goal of this Act is to reduce reliance on China and Taiwan.
The U.S. government hopes to increase the U.S. share of advanced chip production from 0% to 20% by 2030 through these subsidy programs that are also expected to benefit regular Americans by creating tens of thousands of jobs.
