MISTRAL AI

Mistral Unveils The Best Open Source LLM Currently Available💥

Source: Mistral AI

In a major development for open and accessible AI, Mistral AI has unleashed what may be the most powerful open language model available today.

Details:

  • Mistral's new Mixtral 8x7B model builds on their already impressive 7B model released just a few months ago. This smarter, speedier iteration now handily outperforms Meta's acclaimed 70B parameter LLaMA 2 system while using far fewer parameters for lightning-fast inference.

  • With scores besting LLaMA 2 across most NLP benchmarks, Mixtral 8x7B (Mistral Small) demonstrates accuracy on par with commercial models like GPT-3.5.

  • Mistral 8x7B is now available in beta through Mistral's platform supporting English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Their smaller 7B model and an unreleased prototype(Mistral Medium) said to match GPT-3.5 can also be accessed.

With Mixtral 8x7B setting new bars for open model quality and efficiency, it's an exciting indication of the rapid progress in accessible AI.

Elon Musk’s new AI Grok accused of ripping off ChatGPT code

It hasn't been long since Grok was released, and while it received praise for its real-time data features and 'spicy' answers, it has also been a topic of controversy. Grok aims to provide an alternative to OpenAI's market-leading ChatGPT. However, multiple users have reported Grok responses that reference OpenAI's policies and support information.

xAI engineer Igor Babuschkin acknowledged the ChatGPT references but denied any use of OpenAI code in the making of Grok, claiming that Grok accidentally absorbed some language during web scraping for training data. However, Babuschkin called it 'very rare' and promised corrections in future versions of Grok.

After OpenAI poked fun at the resemblances, Elon Musk also joined the conversation.

Nonetheless, observers are worried this could represent a deeper programming flaw rather than an isolated occurrence.

These discoveries also raise critical questions regarding AI training processes: the current surge of AI-generated web content could become problematic for the training of future models if not filtered correctly.

Europe agrees landmark AI regulation deal

The EU just achieved a massive tech policy win, clinching the world's first comprehensive artificial intelligence rules. The Artificial Intelligence Act passed after marathon late-night negotiations, overcoming differences on issues like facial recognition and creative AI. The eventual law, however, wouldn’t fully take effect until 2025 at the earliest. Civil groups say it doesn't go far enough in protecting people. Still, as the blueprint for global AI governance, the EU rules could shape how tech is built and used worldwide.
