Mistral Releases New Models and Updates "Le Chat"

French AI startup Mistral has rolled out exciting updates to its AI offerings. With new features and models, Mistral aims to close the gap with the leading U.S.-based companies.

Details:

• Mistral's Le Chat platform now includes web search with inline citations, a 'canvas' tool for content creation, the ability to handle large PDFs, and image generation capabilities powered by the Flux Pro model, thanks to a partnership with Black Forest Labs.

• Mistral has introduced Pixtral Large, a model capable of processing both text and images, boasting 124 billion parameters. It competes with top models like Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet and OpenAI’s GPT-4o.

• Additionally, the startup is launching a new version of Mistral Large, called Mistral Large 24.11, a text-only model that now offers improved long-context understanding, ideal for document analysis and task automation.

Users who want to try the new Le Chat features will need to enable them as beta features in the web interface.

Ben Affleck Says AI Doesn't Stand a Chance Against Actors or Writers and Will Never Replace Them 🎥

In a recent interview at the 2024 CNBC Delivering Alpha investor summit, Affleck declared that “movies will be one of the last things, if everything gets replaced, to be replaced by AI.”

Details:

• When asked about AI creating movies from scratch, Affleck replied, "That's not possible now. Will it be in the future? Highly unlikely."

• He argued that, as it stands, the technology can't produce quality art on its own. "AI can write excellent imitative verse that sounds Elizabethan. It cannot write Shakespeare."

• He sees the technology being used in the more "laborious, less creative, and more costly aspects of filmmaking," which could help creators lower costs and reduce barriers to entry, allowing "more voices to be heard."

His position contrasts with the growing concerns of many who fear that AI’s rapid advancement could threaten the film industry.
