MIDJOURNEY
Midjourney v6 Now in Alpha - Major Upgrades to Image Generation ✨
Source: Midjourney
Midjourney has officially released the alpha version of their highly anticipated v6 model for image generation. After nine months of development, v6 brings exciting improvements that elevate AI art to the next level. The enhancements include:
Much more accurate prompt following as well as longer prompts
Improved coherence, and model knowledge
Improved image prompting and remix
Minor text drawing ability
Improved upscalers for 2x Resolution
While some v5 features like pan, zoom, and vary aren't supported yet, they are expected to return within the next month as testing continues.
In just a few hours after the release, users have already shared comparisons between the new v6 and the previous v5.2. Here are some notable examples (left v5.2, right v6):

The general conclusions so far are as follows:
Version 6 does indeed follow the instructions in the prompts much better than Version 5.2 does.
V6 images are more realistic and detailed.
There has been a huge improvement in text generation.
Prompting works differently for the new alpha; very common phrases used for V5.2, such as "photorealistic," "4k," "8k," etc., now do more harm than good for the prompt.

Free ChatGPT Edges Ahead of Gemini Pro, Study Says
Source: Business Insider
A new study from Carnegie Mellon University challenges claims made by Google about the capabilities of its Gemini Pro language model. Researchers found Gemini Pro lagged behind OpenAI's GPT-3.5 across most benchmark tests conducted.
Details:
Despite Google's claims that Gemini Pro matches or exceeds the performance of GPT-3.5, the study concludes that 'across all tasks, Gemini’s Pro model achieved comparable but slightly inferior accuracy compared to the current version of OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 Turbo.'
Gemini Pro surpassed GPT-3.5 in just two narrow categories as per the study - Security Studies and High School Microeconomics. In all other domains tested, OpenAI's free model outscored Gemini Pro.
Significant discrepancies were also found between Google's self-reported performance scores for Gemini Pro and what the researchers uncovered. This raises questions around the reliability of internally-run benchmarks.
These findings underscore the importance of neutral, third-party benchmarking for large language models. It also puts some skepticism about the claims the company has made about the upcoming Gemini Ultra.

Explore the Power of Midjourney V6
The new version 6 is available to all Midjourney customers.
*Note: Midjourney is not free, you will have to subscribe to a monthly plan to use the service
To start testing the new alpha you should go to the Midjourney discord and from there you can either:
Activate the alpha version, by selecting
V6
from the dropdown menu under/settings
.Or, you can simply type
--v 6
after your prompt to enable it.
Midjourney also recommends adjusting the prompting style:
Prompting with V6 is significantly different than V5.
V6 is much more sensitive to your prompt. Avoid 'junk' like "award winning, photorealistic, 4k, 8k"
Be explicit about what you want
Use --style raw for more photographic/literal results

Anthropic is getting ahead of the curve on AI copyright by updating terms to let customers own content made by Claude. This protects customers if models replicate copyrighted work. Anthropic will also defend clients and cover costs if sued. OpenAI and Microsoft have similar policies to spur sales despite legal uncertainty on AI copyright. Anthropic aims to expand access to its models while safeguarding clients.
Apple research brings big AI to small devices
Apple has devised clever methods to run large language models that exceed available memory, bringing advanced AI capabilities to compact devices. Using these methods collectively enables running models up to twice the size of the available DRAM. This research paves the way for more powerful AI integration across Apple products.
That’s a wrap!
