META

Meta's New AI Tools Let You Edit Images and Generate Videos With Just Text 🎇

Meta revealed new AI systems for advanced image and video manipulation. The new tools, based on Meta's Expressive Media Universe (Emu) model, allow users to edit images and generate videos through simple text instructions.

  1. Emu Edit - Precise Image Editing With Text Instructions

The first tool is called Emu Edit, and it allows for really granular image editing just by typing text commands. For example, you could add text to an image or change the color of an object just by describing what you want to edit.

Some key things Emu Edit can do:

  • Add or remove backgrounds

  • Transform colors and geometry

  • Detect and segment objects

  • Follow instructions precisely so unrelated pixels stay untouched

This gives users way more control than typical AI image generators. Meta trained Emu Edit on a dataset of 10 million image edit examples, so it can follow instructions well while maintaining high image quality.

  1. Emu Video for Video Generation

Emu Video can generate short videos from text prompts. This works by first generating a keyframe image from the text, and then animating it into a video conditioned on both the text and the generated image.

Emu Video can create 4-second, 512x512 videos at 16fps. It uses a more efficient "factorized" approach than Meta's previous video generator (Make-A-Video), so it's simpler to implement.

DEEPMIND & YOUTUBE

DeepMind and YouTube Unveil New AI Tools for Music Generation

Google's artificial intelligence subsidiary DeepMind has partnered with YouTube to release new AI systems focused on music creation. Dubbed "Lyria," this new AI model aims to generate tunes and backtracks to augment human creativity. Alongside Lyria, DeepMind and YouTube launched two new experimental toolsets:

  1. Dream Track

This tool creates 30-second AI-generated songs in the style of various popular artists. Creators can select an artist and topic, and Dream Track will produce a short composition to potentially be used for YouTube Shorts.

  1. Music AI

Slated for release later this year, Music AI is a collection of tools to aid with songwriting and music production. For example, humming a melody to generate backing tracks or playing chords on a MIDI keyboard to create an AI-generated ensemble arrangement.

The goal seems to be utilizing AI as a collaborative tool for people, rather than fully automating music generation.
