Meta is Pushing for the Government to Use Its AI 🤯

Meta is “working with the public sector to adopt Llama across the U.S. government,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced during Meta’s Q3 earnings call.

Details:

  • Meta is in talks with the US State Department to explore how Llama can address challenges like improving access to safe water and electricity and supporting small businesses.

  • Discussions are also underway with the Department of Education on how Llama could help make the financial aid process more user-friendly for students.

  • Discussions are being held with others as well, all looking for potential ways Llama could benefit the government.

  • Meta's spokesperson confirmed that there are no payments involved in these partnerships, focusing on mutual benefits instead.

During the earnings call, Zuckerberg also hinted at Llama’s next model, noting it’s training on an unprecedentedly large cluster and will feature “new modalities,” “stronger reasoning,” and “much faster” performance when it debuts next year.

AI RESEARCH

New Study Reveals LLMs Can Spot Their Own Mistakes

A recent study by researchers from Technion, Google Research, and Apple has uncovered that large language models (LLMs) have a deeper understanding of their own errors than previously thought.

Details:

  • The study broadens the definition of "hallucinations" to include all types of errors made by LLMs, such as factual inaccuracies and reasoning failures.

  • Unlike previous research focusing on external behavior, this study delves into the internal workings of LLMs, analyzing "exact answer tokens" that determine the correctness of responses.

  • The research revealed that LLMs have an intrinsic ability to recognize their own mistakes, with truthful information concentrated in specific parts of their outputs.

This study could pave the way for more reliable AI systems by leveraging the models' internal mechanisms to identify and correct mistakes.
