Meta Announces 'Industry-Leading' AI Video Generator: Movie Gen 📽

Meta has announced, Movie Gen, a new AI-powered video generatorl that creates high-definition videos complete with sound.

Details:

  • Movie Gen can generate entirely new videos using text prompts and edit existing footage or images. Users can transform still images into moving scenes or alter existing videos with new elements.

  • It can also add sound to the videos, including ambient noise, sound effects, and background music, all created by AI to match the visuals.

  • Videos can be produced in various aspect ratios, catering to different platforms and uses.

  • Meta's chief product officer stated that Movie Gen is not ready for release due to high costs and long generation times, though Mark Zuckerberg has said it will be "coming to Instagram next year."

Tools like Movie Gen promise to change how we create and consume video content. However, users will have to wait a bit longer, as Movie Gen is not yet available for public use.

Geoffrey Hinton has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his groundbreaking work in AI.

Details:

  • Hinton's research has been pivotal in the development of machine learning, earning him the Nobel Prize alongside John Hopfield.

  • Known for his contributions to image recognition technology, Hinton left Google in 2023 to raise alarms about the potential dangers of AI, including job displacement and misinformation.

  • The Academy noted that while machine learning is transforming various sectors, its future hinges on how humanity chooses to utilize these technologies.

During a post-award conference call, Hinton voiced serious concerns about AI’s rapid advancement, warning, "We need to worry about bad consequences," and stressing the importance of addressing potential risks.

Have ChatGPT critique and edit its own work using the new Canvas feature

OpenAI released a new feature called "Canvas," which offers a shared, editable page where ChatGPT can mimic a human collaborator and repeatedly edit or provide feedback on specific parts of text and code.

*Note: The Canvas feature is available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users. Enterprise and Edu users will get access this week, with plans to extend it to Free users after beta.

  1. Go to ChatGPT and click on the model name in the top-left corner.

  2. Select "GPT-4 with Canvas."

  3. Ask for a brief write-up on any topic.

  4. Go to the magic pencil icon in the bottom right corner and select 'Suggest Edits.' ChatGPT will offer inline suggestions and feedback that you can apply with a single click.

  1. You can also select the other options to edit the text as you prefer:

  • Add emojis: Adds relevant emojis for emphasis and color.

  • Add final polish: Checks for grammar, clarity, and consistency.

  • Change reading level: Adjusts the reading level, from Kindergarten to Graduate School.

  • Adjust the length: Edits the document length to be shorter or longer.
