APPLE

iPhone Design Chief Joins Sam Altman and Jony Ive to Work on AI Hardware 🤝🏻

Tang Tam, Apple's Vice President of Product Design and lead designer for flagship products including iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, is leaving the company to join former chief design officer Jony Ive's firm LoveFrom. At LoveFrom, Tam will serve as hardware design lead on an artificial intelligence project backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Details:

  • The AI hardware is reportedly still in early conceptual stages, with a consumer focus

  • Tam has played an integral role in shepherding the design of Apple's core products for years.

  • Since 2019, over a dozen members of Ive's renowned design group have left Apple, with only a handful of veterans remaining.

It was already known that Tang would be leaving Apple, and he appears to be joining several other former Apple employees who have also left for Ive’s new firm. With this talent drain and new competitors emerging, it will be interesting to see how Apple fares.

Pika Labs has made waves by opening its powerful AI video generator to the public. Pika 1.0 lets anyone create custom 3D, anime, cinematic, and other videos with simple text prompts.

The platform can generate videos that run at 8 to 24 frames per second and are four seconds long by default. The duration can be extended by four seconds at a time, up to 15 seconds, with two clicks. However, the longer a scene, the harder it is for the model to maintain consistency.

To gain access, users need to sign up via Google or Discord on the company’s website. Once an account is created, the company places the user on a waitlist. After a short period, Pika Labs will send an email confirming full access to Pika 1.0.
