Humane's Ai Pin: A Glimpse into the Future of Wearable Tech? π
After months of hype and speculation, Humane has finally taken the wraps off its first product: the Ai Pin. This small, wearable device promises to usher in the era of "ambient computing", doing away with the need to stare at a smartphone screen all day.

The Ai Pin attaches magnetically to your clothing and features a camera, microphone, and other sensors to constantly collect data about your surroundings. It's powered by AI and has no screen - instead, it uses audio and haptic feedback to communicate with you.
Details:
Available for pre-order on November 16 for $699 plus a $24 monthly subscription
Runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Humane's own AI software framework
Uses a "Laser Ink Display" to project notifications onto your palm
Hot-swappable battery modules for continuous power
Translates conversations in real-time and identifies objects/food using computer vision
Integrates with Microsoft, OpenAI, and Tidal at launch. More partnerships are expected.
It's an ambitious vision of the future from the mysterious Humane startup, backed by $230 million in funding. But can it deliver on its promises and convince consumers to ditch their iPhones? We'll find out when the Ai Pin starts shipping later this year.

Amazon Reportedly Developing New AI Model "Olympus" to Challenge ChatGPT
Source: Amazon
Latest reports indicate that Amazon is developing a powerful new artificial intelligence model codenamed "Olympus".
Details:
Amazon is rushing to build the model, with plans to potentially unveil it as early as December 2022. Once launched, Olympus could be integrated into Amazon's Alexa virtual assistant and online retail platform.
With 2 trillion parameters, Olympus is said to be twice the size of OpenAI's GPT-4 model, one of the largest language models ever created.
Amazon reportedly delayed the release of an earlier AI model called Titan in 2022, feeling it could not match groundbreaking models like ChatGPT. The company now aims to rapidly close the gap.

AI RESEARCH
EmerNeRF Promises Safer Self-Driving Cars
Source: emernerf.github.io
Researchers have unveiled an exciting new AI system called EmerNeRF that could help self-driving cars better understand their surroundings. Developed by a team from Nvidia, USC, Georgia Tech, University of Toronto, Stanford, Technion, and others, EmerNeRF has the potential to significantly improve autonomous navigation.
Details:
EmerNeRF uses neural radiance fields to create detailed 3D representations of the world from camera and LiDAR data. This allows it to distinguish between static and dynamic objects in a scene - a key capability that can help self-driving cars navigate more safely.
The system is completely self-supervised, learning to identify moving objects without any human labeling.
In tests, EmerNeRF was able to separate video footage into static and dynamic elements with no guidance. It also outperformed previous state-of-the-art methods on a benchmark of 120 driving scenes.
EmerNeRF demonstrates the rapid progress of AI for perception. As models like this better replicate human understanding of complex environments, we come closer to unleashing fully autonomous cars onto our roads.
