Hollywood's AI-Fueled Strike Ends with AI Protections for Actors 🎭

After nearly 4 months, the Hollywood actors' strike has ended with a landmark deal. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) announced over the weekend that its members voted to approve a new 3-year contract valued at $1 billion with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The 118-day strike was the longest in Hollywood history, underscoring actors' concerns about protecting their likenesses and incomes in the AI era.
The deal includes "unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI," according to SAG-AFTRA.
Specific details remain private for now. However, AI and 3D scanning of actors were major sticking points in negotiations.
The 3-year deal will likely require re-negotiation around AI protections in the future as the technology continues to grow but this could influence how other industries approach AI and workers' rights.

Nvidia Unveils H200, Its Latest High-Performance Chip for AI Training

Nvidia unveiled the H200, its newest high-performance graphics processing unit designed for training and deploying artificial intelligence models. The GPU is an upgrade from the company's previous H100 chip that was utilized to train generative AI models such as GPT-4.
Details:
The H200 contains 141GB of HBM3 memory, nearly double the H100, enabling faster inference when using trained AI models to generate text, images, or predictions. Nvidia claims the H200 can generate output at almost 2x the speed of the H100 based on benchmark tests.
The additional memory allows full AI models to be loaded onto the hardware for accelerated inference performance.
Slated for release in Q2 2024, the H200 will be compatible with existing H100 server systems, requiring no change to hardware or software.
Further specifications and performance metrics are expected as the release date approaches.
