Ex-OpenAI Board Member Helen Toner Shares Her Side of the Story
Source: WSJ
There's been plenty of intrigue surrounding the surprise ousting of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman right before Thanksgiving. Board member Helen Toner, who voted to remove Altman, told her side of the story in a WSJ interview:
Toner says the goal was to "strengthen OpenAI and make it more able to achieve its mission" of benefiting humanity through AI. She implies a lack of trust led to Altman's removal, though declines to give specifics
She alleges that an unnamed OpenAI lawyer later attempted to pressure her to reinstate Altman, describing it as an 'intimidation' tactic.
Previously, Altman privately confronted Toner about a critical research paper she co-authored on AI safety, which was critical of OpenAI. Subsequently, he unsuccessfully attempted to sway other board members to remove Toner.
She admitted she was taken aback by staffers’ apparent willingness to abandon the company without Altman at the helm and the extent to which the management team sided with the ousted CEO.
While the interview does share some insights on how the situation unfolded and Helen Toner's perspective throughout, the 'real' reasons for the dismissal are once again not provided. It appears that information is set to remain behind closed doors

Obtain Super High-Resolution Versions of Your Images
Source: magnific.ai
Following these easy steps, you will be able to transform standard resolution images (1024) to a remarkable 3584 × 5376 by letting the AI hallucinate all the intricate details.
Generate an image.
You can use midjourney, example prompt:
photography, a green lush waterfall in the middle of the jungle, in the style of eastern zhou dynasty, lovely, ferrania, lively and energetic, naturalistic nostalgia, graceful --ar 2:3 --v 5
Upscale in Magnific AI
Preset: Nature & Landscapes, Creativity: 2, HDR: 1, Resemblance: -2
You will need to put a different prompt from the one used in midjourney, to weight important details:
photography, a green lush waterfall in the middle of the jungle, (realistic water, waterfall, water drops:1.3), (realistic plants and tress:1.3), rain forest, (realistic ferns:1.2)
Once it is done, download the upscaled image
Upscale Again
Upload the upscaled image for another upscale. This will allow you to achieve 4x magnification. The procedure is the same as before, the only change is to switch the "Engine" to "Sharpy" to obtain a sharper look.
Then just download the result and you’ll have a super high resolution and enhanced version of your original image.

Sam Altman named Time's 'CEO of the Year' 2023
Source: Time
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was just named Time’s 2023 ‘CEO of the Year’ for spearheading products like ChatGPT that made AI undeniably mainstream this year. Per Time, ChatGPT and the forthcoming GPT-4 are “transformative—for the company and the world.” Altman remarked, “For many people, 2023 was the year that they started taking AI seriously.”
Google’s best Gemini demo was staged
Google's Gemini AI demo video misled people by implying real-time voice interaction. In reality, the outputs were text-prompted and edited to appear more advanced, rather than having Gemini respond to — or predict — a drawing or a change of objects on the table in real time. This lessened the impact of the demonstration, and users heavily criticized the lack of a disclaimer disclosing this information. Google denies any wrongdoing, claiming it presented the demo in this manner 'to inspire developers.'
ChatGPT responds to reports claiming GPT4 is getting ‘lazier’
we've heard all your feedback about GPT4 getting lazier! we haven't updated the model since Nov 11th, and this certainly isn't intentional. model behavior can be unpredictable, and we're looking into fixing it 🫡

ChatGPT is responding to user complaints of lazy and dull responses, attributing it to unpredictable model behavior. After tech experts called out issues of ChatGPT frequently refusing prompts and laying out steps rather than completing tasks, OpenAI said they are looking into the software bugs causing unpredictability.
That’s a wrap!
