A recent McKinsey survey shows that a significant number of employees from diverse industries and geographic regions have experimented with generative AI tools, both within and outside their professional roles. It's quite remarkable to see this level of adoption in less than a year since their introduction.

New GPT-4 Update Brings Enhanced Document Handling and Multimodal Support

OpenAI is rolling out new beta features for ChatGPT Plus members.

1. Enhanced document analysis

This update enables users to analyze PDFs and various other file formats directly within the system. You can directly chat about PDFs or other data files and document types.

2. Use tools without switching

Previously, you had to manually select different modes in ChatGPT. Now, GPT-4 can automatically choose the right tools it needs to perform a given task. For example, it can switch to DALL-E 3 for image generation or pull in the Advanced Data Analysis model when you need a chart or graph.

This update comes just before OpenAI's DevDay conference next week, during which the company is expected to introduce new tools and innovations.

Note: The update is not yet available to all ChatGPT premium users, you might have to wait a few days to get access.

Google Bets Big on Anthropic in AI Startup Proxy War

The AI startup arms race continues to escalate, with Google making a massive $2 billion investment in Anthropic this week. This rivals Microsoft's funding of OpenAI and brings Anthropic's total raised to over $3.5 billion.

Details:

• With $500 million upfront and up to $1.5 billion more later, Google is going all in on Anthropic as a leading AI startup.

• It's becoming an AI proxy war, with tech giants unable to build their own large language models so they back startups instead. Amazon has committed up to $4 billion to Anthropic too.

The funding will likely go towards developing Anthropic's next-gen "Claude-Next" model. Building cutting-edge AI is insanely expensive, and the key players are now being heavily backed by the tech establishment.
