Google's Main Goal for 2024: 'Deliver the World's Most Advanced AI π
Google has reportedly established an ambitious internal goal to "deliver the worldβs most advanced, safe, and responsible AI" by 2024, according to a recently leaked company document. This objective signals Google's intent to catch up and potentially surpass current AI capabilities demonstrated by Microsoft, OpenAI, and other tech leaders.
Details:
Google currently lags behind Microsoft and OpenAI in AI technology and deployment. Its latest Gemini language models received a lukewarm reception and its Bard chatbot lags far behind ChatGPT in terms of user numbers.
Microsoft's booming cloud platform growth thanks to its OpenAI integration also highlights the increasing business imperative for advanced AI.
To reach its 2024 goal, Google will likely ramp up investments in generative AI, AI for search, and integrating AI features into products like Pixel smartphones and its business apps.
Achieving the 'world's most advanced AI' is an ambitious aim for Google. But with accelerated AI innovation and stiff competition ahead, who knows what new breakthroughs could be around the corner

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently published new recommendations regarding the use of large multimodal AI models (LMMs) in healthcare. As advanced AI systems that can process diverse data types, LMMs show promise for transforming areas like diagnosis and treatment.
Details:
The guidelines contain over 40 proposals for stakeholders on the responsible development and deployment of healthcare LMMs
Potential benefits highlighted include improving clinical care, patient education, healthcare operations, and research
But risks such as providing false recommendations, threatening privacy, and an overreliance on automation are also addressed
Governments are urged to invest in non-profit efforts focused on deploying AI to promote health equity
The WHO guidelines mark an important step toward establishing principles and best practices for unlocking the potential of AI in medicine while safeguarding patients and practitioners.

IBM's new Scout Adviser platform will analyze potential football recruits for Spanish club Sevilla FC, using AI to evaluate both quantitative stats and qualitative notes from over 200,000 scouting reports. The goal is to identify top prospects that align with the club's needs. But the final call still resides with Sevilla's human scouting team - the AI is just another tool in their talent-spotting toolkit. With football becoming increasingly data-driven, AI could soon play a starring role in the beautiful game's transfer market.
Fake Joe Biden robocall urges people not to vote in New Hampshire
An AI-powered robocall impersonating President Biden reportedly told New Hampshire voters not to participate in the state's presidential primary this week. The state attorney general's office is investigating this apparent attempt at voter suppression. As generative AI technology advances, we may, unfortunately, witness more manipulative uses, so people should stay vigilant.
