Gemini Can Now Refer to Past Chats with Recall Feature

No more repeating yourself or searching for old chats—Google’s Gemini AI assistant can now recall past conversations for a smoother, more personalized experience.

Details:

• Users can ask Gemini to summarize past conversations, build on previous discussions, and continue working on projects without losing progress, making interactions much more efficient.

• Google gives users full control to review, delete, and manage their Gemini chat history anytime by selecting their profile picture in the top right corner of the Gemini app and choosing “Gemini Apps Activity.” If they don’t want Gemini to remember anything, they can simply turn off the feature.

• For now, this memory feature is rolling out in English for Gemini Advanced users who subscribe to the Google One AI Premium Plan.

• For free users, Google Gemini now offers file analysis, a feature previously limited to the paid tier. Gemini supports various text, spreadsheet, and code file formats, and Android and web users can import files directly from Google Drive.

Google is expanding its offerings to make Gemini a more competitive alternative in the AI space, but some point out that it is playing catch-up, as ChatGPT introduced similar features months ago.

YouTube Introduces AI-Generated Video Clips for Shorts

YouTube is making it easier for creators to level up their Shorts with AI-generated video clips. The platform has integrated Google’s Veo 2 video model into its Dream Screen feature, allowing users to create standalone video clips based on text prompts.

Details:

• Previously limited to green screen backgrounds, Dream Screen now supports standalone video clips with customizable styles, effects, and lengths.

• To use it, open the Shorts camera, open the media picker, select “Create,” and describe what you want.

• The feature started rolling out today in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to expand to more regions “soon.”

• Generated videos will include visual labels and Google’s invisible SynthID watermarks to show they were AI-created.

It’s an interesting update, given that Google’s latest Veo model is still in early access and only available to the public via a waitlist, making this a good opportunity to experiment with it.
