Google Postpones Launch of GPT-4 Challenger 'Gemini' to Next Year 🤖
Source: Google
Google has reportedly delayed the launch of its much-anticipated Gemini AI system until next year, according to inside sources at the tech giant.
Details:
Launch events planned for next week in California, New York, and Washington have been postponed to January
The decision came directly from Google CEO Sundar Pichai after engineers noticed issues with Gemini's ability to respond to queries in non-English languages
Smaller versions of Gemini are currently being tested, but the full, large-scale model still needs more development to improve multilingual capabilities
The launch of Gemini is crucial for Google to demonstrate its ability to compete with OpenAI's GPT-4 model, aiming to surpass GPT-4 in certain aspects. For now, GPT-4 remains the leader, with no other model able to match it since its release in March 2023.

TikTok’s parent company ByteDance is taking on OpenAI. According to the South China Morning Post, ByteDance is gearing up to launch its own bot-building platform to compete with OpenAI’s recently announced “GPT” store.
Details:
OpenAI revealed last month that developers could now create customizable versions of ChatGPT, known as “GPTs” and OpenAI planned a GPT store where developers could sell them.
Now ByteDance is jumping into the ring with its own take on these customizable chatbots. The TikTok owner aims to have a public beta of its bot development platform ready by the end of December.
The company had already demonstrated its interest in AI back in August when it released its own chatbot, Doubao.
ByteDance's shift to AI aligns with increasing demands for a US ban on TikTok, the company’s most successful product, due to national security concerns.

DiffusionAvatars Generates High-Quality 3D Avatars with Realistic Facial Expressions
Source: Diffusion Avatars
Researchers at the Technical University of Munich have developed an intriguing new method called DiffusionAvatars for generating realistic 3D avatars. The system combines 2D diffusion models and 3D neural networks to animate models with exceptional quality and control.
Details:
DiffusionAvatars can create 3D avatars with natural facial expressions and animations that mimic real human motions and expressions.
The system allows animating avatars by transferring motions from video or through targeted controls over facial expressions.
Potential applications span diverse areas including VR/AR, video conferencing tools, gaming, entertainment, and education.
With further development to overcome limitations, DiffusionAvatars could enable richer, more immersive experiences and communications through photorealistic 3D avatars.
