Google Launches Gemini 2.0, Its Newest Flagship AI That Can Generate Text, Images, and Speech 🔥

Google has announced a series of major updates to its AI offerings, centered around Gemini 2.0—a faster and more capable AI model that, according to the company, marks the beginning of its 'agent era,' where AI can perform tasks without human input.

Google’s flagship AI model is now twice as fast as its predecessor and outperforms Gemini 1.5 Pro on every major benchmark. Along with supporting multimodal inputs, it now offers multimodal outputs, such as natively generated images combined with text and steerable multilingual text-to-speech (TTS) audio—a significant leap forward.

The new Gemini 2.0 is accessible for free as an experimental preview release through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.

A new AI agent in the Chrome browser that can understand and reason across information on your browser screen, including pixels and web elements like text, code, images, and forms, and then uses that information to complete tasks for you. It navigates real-world web tasks with an 83.5% success rate.

A new assistant with a 10-minute memory for conversations, fluently speaks multiple languages, responds faster than ever, and integrates seamlessly with Maps, Search, and Lens for a truly personalized experience.

  • Additional Features

Jules: An AI coding agent integrated into GitHub.

Gemini for Games: A real-time gaming companion designed for immersive experiences.

Early access to these tools is already available, with a full rollout planned for January 2025.

Gold can be a solid bet in uncertain times

Investors have historically turned to gold because of its stability. Gold can act like a safety net in your portfolio because its value tends to stay afloat – even when the stock market dives. It’s also considered a hedge against inflation, meaning its value can rise as the buying power of cash goes down.

Apple's iPhone Update Brings New AI Features

Apple has rolled out iOS 18.2, and it’s packed with exciting new AI-powered features that aim to make your phone both smarter and more fun:

  • Image Playground: Create custom stylized images using prompts or photos of yourself and your friends. Image Playground is integrated into Messages, making image creation for conversations easier.

  • Genmoji: This feature that lets you create custom emojis for any occasion on your device. Emojis created on iOS 18.2 can be seen by others, but only users with the latest update can make them.

  • Image Wand: A new tool for the Notes app that lets you add images to your notes based on what you’ve written. On iPad, you can even sketch with the Apple Pencil, and Image Wand will turn your rough ideas into polished visuals.

  • Siri + ChatGPT: Siri now gets a boost with ChatGPT integration. You can opt-in to have Siri send requests to ChatGPT for more advanced answers, image generation, or text creation.

  • Visual Intelligence: Use your iPhone camera to identify objects and places around you. Get reviews, copy text, or ask ChatGPT for more details about what you’re looking at.

  • Writing Tools: In iOS 18.1, users could adjust the tone to friendly, professional, or simplified. With iOS 18.2, you can specify tone or content changes, such as using more action words or converting an email into a poem.

  • Expanded Language Support: Apple Intelligence is still only available in English, but iOS 18.2 adds "localized English" for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.

There are still many Apple Intelligence features to come. iOS 18.3 is expected to arrive in late January and could potentially include new Siri features.

How to use Apple's new Visual Intelligence

*Note: Visual Intelligence is available only on iPhone 16 models running iOS 18.2.

  1. Activate Visual Intelligence

To start, you just need to press the Camera Control button. Keep in mind that this feature works best in vertical mode; it doesn’t fully support horizontal mode yet.

  1. Point, Shoot, and Search

Once Visual Intelligence is running, aim at what you want to search for and tap the shutter button. The AI will analyze the image and provide relevant results.

The results vary depending on what you're capturing. This feature can also extract important details, such as email addresses and phone numbers, which you can copy into another app.

  1. Ask Follow-Up Questions Using ChatGPT

If you want more details, press the chat bubble icon in the lower-left corner. This lets you use ChatGPT to ask follow-up questions, and the AI will try to provide more information.

  1. Use Google Search

Prefer Google? Tap the “Search with Google” button at the bottom right.

You can also use Visual Intelligence as a productivity tool. It can summarize text you capture and translate foreign words in images.
