Google Launches a New AI Image Generator and Upgrades to Creative Tools

Google just launched ImageFX, a new AI-powered image creation tool utilizing their advanced Imagen 2 technology.

  • ImageFX is a new tool in Labs that lets people create images with simple text prompts.

  • ImageFX includes a prompt interface featuring “expressive chips” that let you quickly experiment with adjacent dimensions of your creation and ideas.

  • The images will be tagged with a SynthID watermark as a safety measure.

In tandem with the ImageFX release, Google also announced upgrades to two of its creative generative AI experiments - MusicFX and TextFX.

  • MusicFX now allows you to create songs up to 70 seconds long and music loops. Additionally, you can explore prompts with expressive chips and share your creations with friends.

  • TextFX boasts UI improvements for smoother navigation and usage

These tools are only available in the U.S., New Zealand, Kenya, and Australia for now.

Bard Gets a Big Upgrade - What's New for Google's Chatbot

Google has announced major upgrades to enhance the capabilities of its Bard conversational AI chatbot globally. This update aims to make Bard more intelligent, useful, and multi-lingual.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Bard is now powered by Gemini Pro across 40+ languages in over 230 countries, increasing its ability to understand, summarize, reason, and write.

  • Expanded support for Google's "Double Check" feature to validate Bard's responses across supported languages

  • New AI image generation feature powered by Imagen 2 to produce photorealistic images from text prompts. Currently only available in English.

Google is positioning its chatbot to compete more effectively with current market leaders. It remains to be seen if these upgrades capture more mindshare from ChatGPT's first-mover momentum.

How to access Google’s new Image Generator

Users can access the new image generation tool in Google Labs, the company's experimental platform.

*Note: This tool is only available in the U.S., New Zealand, Kenya, and Australia for now.

  1. Go to Google labs

  2. Select ImageFX

  1. Sign in

That will put you on the waiting list, and you will receive an email once you are granted access

  1. Start generating images

Once you receive you have access you are ready to start generating images. It works similarly to any other image generator except for the “chips”

The “Expressive Chips” are dropdown menus over keywords allowing you to quickly alter content with adjacent ideas.

Apple's CEO teases Apple AI announcement 'later this year'

During Apple's quarterly earnings call on Thursday, CEO Tim Cook confirmed the company is developing generative AI features to launch "later this year." While not revealing specifics, Cook's repeated references indicate significant work underway to integrate generative AI into Apple products. His comments build the expectation that iOS 18, slated for release this fall may incorporate major generative AI capabilities.
