Google Expands SGE's Capabilities with AI-Generated Images and Drafts π
Google is expanding the capabilities of its AI-powered search feature SGE (Search Generative Experience) with some exciting new features that were announced this week. SGE can now generate images and write customized drafts directly within the search interface.
Details:
With the new AI image generation option, users can enter a text prompt to create drawings, photos or other images. The feature uses Google's Imagen text-to-image model to generate 4 results that can be downloaded or further edited.

SGE's draft writing skill, which creates email drafts based on search results, can now tailor the length and tone of the generated text. Users can choose to create longer or shorter drafts or adjust the tone to be more casual or formal.

These new capabilities will be available to those who have opted in to use SGE via Google Search Labs
MILITARY TECHNOLOGY
Ukraine Deploys AI-Powered Autonomous Drones
Source: Saker
The war in Ukraine has marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of artificial intelligence in warfare. According to a recent report, Ukraine has become the first military force to operationally deploy autonomous drones capable of independently identifying and attacking targets on the battlefield without direct human control.
Details:
Ukraine is using quadcopter drones called Saker Scouts that can autonomously engage military vehicles including tanks with explosive payloads.
The drones utilize AI to identify over 60 types of objects as targets.
Ukraine sees the technology as a practical way to combat Russia's military advantage, but its deployment foreshadows an AI arms race with profound implications as this conflict has served as a test bed for autonomous weapon systems and AI technology, showcasing the potential for AI to reshape the nature of armed conflicts.

AI achieves fully automated Supernova discovery
A new AI tool has autonomously detected, identified, and shared the discovery of its first supernova, removing humans from the process for the first time. The tool, called Bright Transient Survey Bot, analyzed sky images to find the supernova candidate before requesting follow-up observations and determining it was a Type Ia explosion. This breakthrough streamlines supernova research by bypassing human error and freeing up researchers' time.
