Google Builds AI Co-Scientist to Speed Up Research

Google has introduced AI co-scientist, a multi-agent AI system powered by Gemini 2.0, designed to collaborate with biomedical researchers.

Details:

  • Tested by institutions like Stanford University and Imperial College London, this AI co-scientist is built to assist experts in analyzing massive amounts of data and generating novel research hypotheses and proposals.

  • In an experiment on liver fibrosis, Google said all the approaches suggested by its new AI co-scientist showed promising activity and potential to inhibit causes of disease.

  • Google emphasizes that this AI tool is meant to be a "virtual scientific collaborator" that helps people work faster, not replace human researchers.

While still in its early stages, the tool shows promising results in tackling complex medical challenges. Google is providing access to the system for research organizations through a Trusted Tester Program to assess its current strengths and limitations for further improvement

Microsoft Launches AI Model for Video Games

Microsoft has introduced a new AI model, called Muse, designed to 'create consistent and diverse gameplay' and could be used to preserve classic games.

Details:

  • Developed by Microsoft Research and Xbox Game Studios, Muse uses a "World and Human Action Model (WHAM)" to generate game environments based on visuals or players' controller actions.

  • Microsoft claims the model understands the game's 3D world, physics, and player interactions, generating consistent game sequences up to two minutes long.

  • A major focus of Muse is adapting older Xbox games for modern platforms, making classic titles accessible to new audiences.

  • Microsoft has made Muse available on Azure AI Foundry and Hugging Face for continued development, sharing model weights, sample data, and an interactive interface.

Microsoft’s Muse offers a glimpse into the future of gaming, where AI could play a key role in helping studios create gameplay while also helping preserve and reimagine classic games.

Explore new career possibilities with AI

Google's new experimental 'Career Dreamer' uses AI to make career exploration easier and more personalized. It is a digital career coach that helps you find professional opportunities that match your skills – and it's free to use.

  1. If you're in the US, you can get started with Career Dreamer for free at grow.google/careerdreamer —no account setup required.

  2. Share a current or previous role, and then the platform will generate a list of responsibilities and skills for you to select from. That’s all Career Dreamer needs to start drafting a Career Identity Statement.

  3. Once you have provided all relevant information, click Explore paths. This will bring you to a page of career ideas. As you move your cursor over each role, Career Dreamer provides a quick explanation of how your experience makes you a good fit.

  4. You can refine your results by selecting the Explore paths based on... button. For example, you can ask the AI tool to focus more on new directions by deselecting Experiences and Education while keeping Skills and Interests selected. The tool will then highlight new paths along with advice on additional certifications or education you might need to make the pivot.

  1. Lastly, Career Dreamer includes a tab called 'Jump to Gemini,' intended for building your resume, creating a cover letter, or exploring even more job ideas.
