Google AI Search Tells Users to Glue Pizza and Eat Rocks 👩‍🍳

Google's new AI Overviews feature is providing some bizarre and incorrect responses, raising concerns about the technology's readiness for mainstream use.

Details:

• The feature scans the web and generates AI responses, some of which are clearly inaccurate or nonsensical.

• A hilarious example that went viral is that of a user who was 'recommended' to put glue on pizza. The bizarre suggestion appears to stem from a joking comment made by a user named 'f*cksmith' in a Reddit thread that is over a decade old.

• The search engine's AI-generated responses have also stated that geologists recommend humans eat one rock per day, that former President James Madison attended the same university 21 times, and that a dog has played in the NBA, NFL, and NHL.

Google spokesperson Meghann Farnsworth acknowledged that the 'isolated' mistakes are from 'very uncommon queries' and stated they are working to improve the product.

The OpenAI & Scarlett Johansson Saga Continues

An agent representing the actress who provided the voice for 'Sky' in ChatGPT spoke out after Scarlett Johansson accused OpenAI of imitating her voice

Details:

• The agent claims her client was hired months before OpenAI approached Johansson, and during the audition process, there was no mention of Johansson or the movie 'Her,' where she voiced an AI assistant

• The conditions in the job posting were that the actress must not be unionized, and the voice must sound between 25 and 45 years old and be "warm, engaging [and] charismatic."

• The actress herself says she feels personally attacked by the criticism, especially as it only concerns her natural voice. 'I’ve never been compared to her by the people who know me closely,' she says

For now, the 'Sky' voice remains removed, but the company still claims no wrongdoing, simply expressing regret: 'We are sorry to Ms. Johansson that we didn’t communicate better.'
