Tesla’s New Optimus Gen 2 Humanoid Robot Is Faster, Lighter, and Can Dance Too 🤖
Elon Musk's Tesla has unveiled the Optimus Gen 2 humanoid robot, highlighting a myriad of significant upgrades to mobility, dexterity, and balance. The demo video shows the new iteration being able to conduct tasks like squatting, handling eggs, and even dancing, similar to Tesla’s CEO’s sporadic performances at the company’s events.
Here's a breakdown of the key features:
30% faster walking with better motor control than its predecessor
Lighter frame providing increased agility and efficiency
2-DoF neck enables a wider range of head and arm motions
11-DoF hands that allow it to move its wrists, and fingers more freely
Tactile-sensing hands that allow it to carefully handle fragile objects
While Tesla's Optimus still lags behind specialized robots from Boston Dynamics, the astonishing progress becomes evident when comparing the current version with the early prototype showcased at the Tesla AI Day last year.
We might not be too far from witnessing humanoid robots that are capable enough for real-world usage. Whether it's accompanying individuals who require assistance, aiding in construction or manufacturing, or undertaking tasks deemed dangerous for humans, the possibilities are indeed exciting.

Microsoft Unveils Tiny Yet Mighty AI Model: Phi2

Source: Microsoft
Microsoft recently announced the release of Phi-2, a compact yet powerful language model. Phi-2 manages to match or even outperform much larger models despite having only 2.7 billion parameters.
Details:
With way fewer parameters than LLMs like GPT-3, Phi-2 can still achieve state-of-the-art performance using less data and computations.
Microsoft focused on high-quality training data and advanced scaling techniques. This enabled Phi-2 to outdo its predecessors at tasks like: Math & calculations, coding and Common sense reasoning
Phi-2 even matched Google's newest 13B parameter model Gemini Nano 2 despite being a fraction of the size.
Being so small means Phi-2 can potentially run locally on smartphones and low-tier hardware, opening up new possibilities for AI applications.
In the rapidly advancing field of AI, the impressive capabilities of Microsoft's Phi-2 demonstrate that bigger does not always mean better.
