Microsoft Warns of Iranian AI Efforts to Influence 2024 U.S. Presidential Election 🚨
A recent report from Microsoft has revealed that Iran is using generative AI to interfere in the 2024 US presidential elections.
Details:
Iranian actors are intensifying their use of cyber-based influence operations and generative AI to sway the 2024 US elections.
Several Iranian groups have been identified in this effort: The Sefid Flood group, known for imitating social and political activists; Mint Sandstorm, which focuses on phishing attacks against campaign staffers; and Storm-2035, which operates fake news sites designed to spread polarizing messages.
Besides Iran, actors from Russia and China are also active.
Microsoft notes that, although generative AI is being used, its impact has been limited. Many actors are reverting to more traditional methods, such as digital manipulations and spreading false information under trusted labels, which have proven to be more effective.
The use of generative AI in these manipulation efforts is a growing concern; implementing new measures will be crucial to protect democratic processes in the future.

Elon Musk Accused of Illegally Accessing Data in Nine EU Legal Challenges
Elon Musk’s X is facing serious legal challenges in Europe. The European Centre for Digital Rights (NOYB) has filed multiple complaints, accusing Musk’s social media platform of violating EU privacy laws.
Details:
NOYB has submitted complaints in nine EU countries, alleging that X illegally collected data from over 60 million users to train GrokAI.
The complaints state that X changed data settings without proper user consent, breaking the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The organization argues that X has not shown a legitimate reason for collecting such a large amount of personal data.
The platform’s unclear data usage policies and opt-out settings are cited as further GDPR violations. Despite X halting the use of European users' data for GrokAI, NOYB is pushing for strong action from regulators.
The outcome of these legal challenges could significantly impact how AI companies operate in the EU, especially concerning data privacy and user consent.
