DuckDuckGo's Free AI Tools Are Now Out of Beta
DuckDuckGo launched new AI tools, including a new chatbot and AI-assisted answers in search results, free for everyone with no account needed.
Details:
The AI-assisted answers are pitched as a less intrusive alternative to Google’s AI Overviews, offering more concise responses and letting you control how often they appear in your results: often, sometimes, on-demand, or never.
Some of DuckDuckGo’s AI-assisted answers bring up a box for follow-up questions, leading to a chat with its Duck.ai chatbot, which is also exiting beta.
Duck.ai lets you toggle between GPT-4o mini, o3-mini, Llama 3.3, Mistral Small 3, and Claude 3 Haiku, allowing you to interact with each model anonymously by hiding your IP address. DuckDuckGo has agreements with each AI provider to ensure your data isn’t used for training.
The chatbot includes a “Recent Chats” feature that stores conversations locally on your device, not on DuckDuckGo or any remote servers.
In the coming weeks, Duck.ai will add web search support to improve responses, with more features in the works, including voice interaction on iPhone and Android and the ability to upload images and ask questions about them. While the chatbot will remain free, the company is considering offering access to advanced AI models with its $9.99/month subscription.

Mistral Releases New OCR API, Claiming Top Global Performance
Mistral AI's new optical character recognition (OCR) API processes documents, mathematical expressions, tables, and images with higher accuracy than current market leaders, according to Mistral's benchmark tests.
Details:
Mistral OCR achieves 94.89% accuracy, surpassing Google Document AI (83.42%) and Azure OCR (89.52%). For multilingual processing, it reaches 99.02% accuracy while delivering high processing speeds of up to 2,000 pages per minute at costs as low as $1 per 1,000 pages.
The system can convert complex infographics from documents into digital format. It also includes a "doc-as-prompt" tool that extracts specific details from entire documents, such as contracts or research papers, and organizes them into structured formats like JSON.
With Mistral OCR, Mistral AI continues to expand its suite of AI-driven tools, targeting enterprises that require high-performance document processing solutions. It is ideal for tasks such as digitizing scientific papers, preserving historical documents, and enhancing customer service knowledge bases.
