DeepSeek Releases AI Model Upgrade

DeepSeek has released an upgraded version of its V3 model—a 641-gigabyte model called DeepSeek-V3-0324—on the AI repository Hugging Face today.
Details:
DeepSeek-V3-0324 uses a unique architecture that activates only a fraction of its parameters for specific tasks, making it highly efficient while maintaining top-tier performance.
Unlike most large AI models that require expensive data center setups, this model can run on a Mac Studio with an M3 Ultra chip, drawing less than 200 watts of power.
Early testers report significant improvements over the previous version across all metrics, calling it the best non-reasoning model to date.
Released under an MIT license, the model is freely available for commercial use.
DeepSeek’s open-source approach sets it apart from most Western AI leaders and reflects a broader trend in China’s AI industry, emphasizing accessibility and innovation over exclusivity. Rumors of an upcoming R2 model keep the company at the center of AI discussions despite its low-profile releases.

Can AI Match Human Collaboration? New Study Says Yes

A study involving 776 Procter & Gamble experts shows that individuals using AI tools like GPT-4o can match the performance of traditional two-person teams.
Details:
The study found that two-person teams without AI outperformed solo workers by 24%. However, individuals using AI improved by 37%, matching the performance of non-AI teams.
Teams with AI saw the highest overall improvement (39%), but the difference between teams and solo AI users was minimal. Still, teams using AI were about three times more likely to produce solutions ranking in the top 10% of quality scores.
Contrary to fears of stress with new tech, participants using AI reported more enthusiasm and energy, with fewer negative emotions.
The study's applicability to real-world AI implementation in companies is limited, as it was based on one-day workshops and may not directly translate to complex, long-term work processes. Even so, the researchers suggest companies should reconsider viewing AI merely as a productivity tool and instead see it as an additional team member.

7 ChatGPT prompts you need to try

Generate recipes using what you have on hand.
'I have [list of ingredients]. Suggest a quick meal idea.'
Create an itinerary for a trip
Provide as many details as possible, especially if you have specific preferences.
'I'm visiting Valencia next week. I enjoy [insert your interests]. Create a balanced daily itinerary with specific recommendations.'
Get targeted health advice for common ailments
ChatGPT can be particularly helpful for minor issues where you just need some guidance, but keep in mind that it’s not a replacement for seeing a real doctor.
'I'm experiencing [symptoms] after [extra possible relevant info]. What are the most common causes, home remedies, and when should I see a doctor?'
Craft clear and concise emails
'Can you draft a concise and professional email for [specific situation]?'
Translate laundry care symbols
Those tiny, cryptic symbols on clothing tags can be a hassle, but ChatGPT can easily translate them into clear instructions with a single photo.
'What do these laundry symbols mean in plain language?'
Organize your grocery list
You can dump your shopping list into ChatGPT and ask, 'Organize these items by grocery store section for efficient shopping.'
This transforms your random list into a structured path through the store, grouping produce, dairy, meat, and pantry items together.
AI-powered calorie counting
ChatGPT can make calorie counting much easier.
'Estimate the calories in my breakfast: [describe what you are having].'
You'll get quick, reliable calorie estimates.
