ANTHROPIC
Anthropic Adds Web Search to Its Claude Chatbot

Claude can now search the web, giving it access to the latest events and information to provide real-time, accurate details straight from the internet.
Details:
Paid US users can now toggle on web search in their profiles, with plans to roll it out to free users and other countries in the coming weeks.
Web search enables Claude to pull in up-to-date information and cite sources, making it easier to verify its answers.
This was a highly demanded feature for Claudeāso much so that some users even created their own workarounds to give the AI internet access.
Anthropic attributes the delay to the challenges of integrating two complex systems: probabilistic language models and web search. This can sometimes lead to failures like Googleās AI Overviews confidently recommending putting glue on pizza after pulling information from troll Reddit comments.
Claude still hallucinates or mis-cites web sources, but Anthropic seems to put more effort into accuracy and transparency. This approach could set Claude apart, even though it led to them releasing their feature later than ChatGPT, Gemini, and Mistralās Le Chat, whoāve had it for a long time.

OPENAI
OpenAI Introduces New Audio Models with Customizable Speaking Styles

OpenAI is launching new speech-to-text and text-to-speech audio models in the API, enabling developers to customize how their AI assistants speak and offering improved speech recognition.
Details:
The gpt-4o-transcribe and gpt-4o-mini-transcribe models offer better speech-to-text accuracy, especially in tough conditions like accents, background noise, or fast speech.
The gpt-4o-mini-tts model allows developers to fine-tune AI voices with simple prompts like āspeak like a pirateā or ātell a bedtime story.ā
The system only works with OpenAI's preset artificial voices for nowādevelopers can't create new voices or clone existing ones. The company plans to allow custom voices once it can ensure safety standards are met.
The models are available via OpenAIās API, and developers can integrate them using the Agents SDK. They will also be available on a custom demo site, OpenAI.fm, that individual users can access for limited testing and fun.
