ChatGPT bug causes chaos as AI starts sending nonsensical responses to users 🤯

Source: OpenAI

ChatGPT had a bit of a meltdown yesterday. Things got weird and downright bizarre as the AI started spewing out gibberish, nonsensical outputs to users.

Details:

  • On Tuesday, February 20th, ChatGPT started going "off the rails" with its responses

  • Users flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to complain about the chaos, sharing some truly eyebrow-raising examples:

    • ChatGPT started mixing Spanish and English in unintelligible ways

    • It made up words and repeated phrases over and over again, despite not being asked to do so

  • OpenAI promptly acknowledged the issue on their status page, stating that they had identified the problem and initiated efforts to remedy it within a few hours. Although the issue appears to be resolved by now, they continue to 'monitor the situation.'

Despite the quick fix, the erratic responses from ChatGPT raised some doubts about its reliability and the suitability of AI models for critical tasks in fields like transportation and healthcare.

Google Introduces New Open Gemma LLMs

Source: Google

Google has announced the launch of Gemma, a new family of lightweight open-weight models. This release comes just a week after the tech giant unveiled its latest Gemini model iteration.

The initial Gemma models being released are Gemma 2B and Gemma 7B. Although inspired by Google's Gemini, the company states these are distinct, dense decoder-only models. Detailed benchmarking data was not provided in the initial announcement. However, Google noted that comprehensive benchmarks will be available later today on the Hugging Face leaderboard.

Individuals and businesses can build AI software based on this new family of "open models" for free. It's important to note though that while 'open', these models are not being released as fully open-source.
