ChatGPT Gets the Keys to the Internet
ChatGPT just got a massive upgrade - web browsing capabilities. Microsoft-backed startup OpenAI announced this week that ChatGPT users can now surf the internet, expanding the data the viral chatbot can access.

Details:
Browsing is enabled through integration with Bing search. This gives ChatGPT access to fresher information beyond its earlier September 2021 cutoff.
Websites can control how ChatGPT interacts with them. This helps guard against misuse like bypassing paywalls.
The upgrade comes right after ChatGPT got voice conversation abilities and can now interact using images. The new features bring it closer to voice assistants like Apple's Siri.
The web browsing capability stands to supercharge ChatGPT's knowledge, conversations, and usefulness.
ChatGPT famously hit 100 million monthly users faster than any other app in history after launching late last year. The rapid growth continues - and moves like this will likely accelerate it.

Meta unveiled a ton of new AI features at its annual Connect conference that will take its apps to the next level. From AI assistants to image editing tools, there's a lot for users to get excited about.
New features:
AI Assistant - Powered by Microsoft Bing, this assistant provides real-time web search results across Meta's platforms.
Celebrity Chatbots - AI personalities based on celebs let you chat about specific topics. They'll even have animated video versions next year.
AI Studio - Businesses can build customized chatbots for sales and support in Messenger and beyond.
Image Restyling - Coming to Instagram, edit photos with AI in seconds by typing prompts like "watercolor" or "impressionist."
Meta is clearly leaning hard into AI with these new offerings. It's pushing the boundaries of what's possible on its platforms. Check more details here.
AI RESEARCH
New Sony Research Shows Skin Tone Bias Goes Beyond Color
Source: ai.sony
A new research paper from Sony AI reveals additional layers of bias in AI models related to skin tone and hue. While tools like Google's Monk Skin Tone scale have aimed to address skin tone bias, Sony's findings show there is still work to be done.
Key Details:
Sony found skin tone bias exists not only for skin tone but also for skin hue. Lighter skin tones and redder hues are more likely to be classified as smiling, while darker tones and yellower hues are more likely seen as not smiling.
This means facial recognition and emotion analysis algorithms may have hidden biases based on skin hue as well as tone.
To address this, Sony introduced a new "Hue Angle" measurement to quantify the diversity of skin colors in datasets and models.
The goal is to help AI developers better monitor and mitigate skin tone biases during data collection and model training.
While tools like the MST scale have moved the needle, Sony's research shows there is still work to be done to remove biases related to race and skin tone in AI systems. Their new Hue Angle measurement could be an important step towards more inclusive algorithms.

Blend: AI-Powered App Provides Personalized Fashion Recommendations
Blend uses generative AI to give you a personalized clothing guide.
Blend's app uses transformer technology and recommendation algorithms to understand user preferences. As users interact by liking, saving, and sharing products, it collects data to refine recommendations over time.
The app also helps determine sizing by allowing users to outline their body shape and by using user-generated content showing how clothes fit different body types.
By thoughtfully applying generative AI to solve consumer pain points, Blend aims to become a go-to personalized styling resource.
