Biden Issues First-Ever Executive Order on AI Safety and Security đź’Ą

Source: WhiteHouse.gov

President Biden has signed an executive order to establish guidelines and standards for AI development and deployment. This action comes amid growing excitement and concern over rapidly advancing AI capabilities.

The order aims to balance AI innovation with reasonable safeguards.

Key aspects:

  • The order requires transparency from developers of powerful AI systems, who must share safety test results before public release.

  • It develops guidelines for evaluating privacy techniques in AI to safeguard individual privacy.

  • It provides guidance to prevent discrimination perpetuated by AI algorithms and defines best practices for AI use in the justice system.

  • It conducts a comprehensive study on AI's impact on the labor market and explores ways the federal government can support workers affected by technological disruptions.

This executive order marks an important step toward thoughtful AI oversight. And, as other nations also pursue governance frameworks, the order signals growing recognition of the need to proactively address AI's societal impacts.

Microsoft and Siemens Team Up to Drive Cross-Industry AI Adoption

Source: Microsoft

Microsoft and Siemens announced an exciting new partnership this week to bring the power of artificial intelligence to industries worldwide. Their new project, called Siemens Industrial Copilot, aims to increase productivity and collaboration between humans and machines.

Details:

  • The copilot uses generative AI to help manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare companies design products, organize production, and maintain facilities.

  • It examines data from Siemens to rapidly create, refine, and debug complex automation code. This shortens simulation times at factories.

  • Early adopter Schaeffler says the AI copilot has helped its engineers program industrial robots much faster. Tasks that took weeks now only take minutes.

Siemens' CEO calls this project a potential game-changer that can "revolutionize" design, manufacturing, and operations.

This partnership shows the massive potential of AI to transform essential industries like manufacturing.

Make Coloring Book Pages with DALL-E 3

You can create stunning coloring pages for your children using DALL-E3 by using the following prompt:

A composite image made of 2 separate images. On the left, a black and white simple children's coloring book page featuring a cartoonish [X] with no shading. On the right, the same coloring book page filled in with colors.

The prompt creates two coloring pages simultaneously, one is left blank for coloring, and the other is pre-colored.

This approach provides a reference for kids as they work on their coloring.

Grammarly's new AI feature can mimic your style

Source: Grammarly

The San Francisco-based typing assistant Grammarly is introducing new generative AI features to grow its enterprise customer base. Grammarly's "personalized voice detection and application" automatically detects a person’s unique writing style and generates a “voice profile” that can rewrite any text in the person’s style. This feature promises more natural-sounding AI-generated text. Generative prompts like "Improve It" also aim to help business users rewrite more effectively.

ChatGPT faces fierce competition in AI App Market

ChatGPT continues to lead the AI app market in downloads, now topping over 23 million as of September. However, it faces fierce competition in revenue and active users from other AI apps. Several AI chatbots like "Chat & Ask AI" and "ChatOn" are making more money from in-app purchases than ChatGPT. Viral AI photo editors like FaceApp and Remini also pull in more mobile spending. While ChatGPT's steady growth could make it an enduring leader, for now, other apps are giving it a run for its money across key metrics beyond downloads.

AI Art victory in court - But fight goes on

In a copyright case by artists against AI art generators Midjourney, Stability AI, and DeviantArt, a judge largely dismissed the case. He ruled the artists didn't sufficiently prove infringement, given the huge databases the AIs train on. But he allowed the plaintiffs to refile a narrower suit. So while a victory for AI art, the legal battle continues.

That’s a wrap!
