DeepMind's Latest Breakthroughs for Smarter Robots

Source: Google Deepmind

Google DeepMind has unveiled several exciting new AI innovations designed to enhance robots' real-world capabilities. These advances could pave the way for smarter, more autonomous bots that can take on more complex tasks.

  • AutoRT: Scalable Robot Training with large AI Models

AutoRT leverages the power of large language and visual AI models to train multiple robots at once across diverse environments and tasks. Over 7 months, AutoRT safely coached up to 20 robots concurrently, compiling a rich dataset.

  • SARA-RT: More Efficient Robotic Transformers

SARA-RT optimizes the efficiency of robot transformers by reducing computational complexity.

  • RT Trajectory: Improved Motion Generalization

By overlaying visual trajectory cues onto robot arm motions in training videos, RT Trajectory significantly boosts models' ability to generalize motions to new tasks. In tests, RT Trajectory more than doubled success rates versus prior methods.

Google's "Project Green Light" uses AI to optimize traffic lights, helping cities reduce emissions. The system analyzes traffic patterns and suggests small timing changes to reduce stop-and-go traffic, which cuts vehicle emissions. The aim is a "green wave" for drivers, with lights timed for smoother journeys. The system is now running in 13 cities globally, including Seattle, the first city in the U.S. to try this project which is currently affecting 30 million monthly trips.
