OpenAI Gave Artists Early Access To Sora ✨
Source: OpenAI
OpenAI recently provided early access to its AI video generation tool to a handpicked group of visual artists, designers, creative directors, and filmmakers. The results, shared in a "first impressions" blog post, offer a revealing glimpse into Sora's impressive capabilities.
Details:
While we've seen dozens of amazing Sora-produced videos, this is the first time anyone outside of OpenAI has been able to use the tool to create content.
Participants praised the freedom Sora provides to bring previously unachievable concepts to life without massive budgets holding them back. Perfect for small indie filmmakers.
One striking example is "Air Head" by shy kids, a short film that tells the story of a man with a yellow balloon for a head by stitching together Sora-generated clips.
While there's still some room for improvement in character consistency, it's amazing to see what the tool can already do. You can find more mind-blowing examples here.

Google, Intel, Qualcomm Form Coalition to Challenge Nvidia
Source: UXL foundation
A group of major tech players including Google, Intel, Qualcomm, Arm, and others have banded together to challenge NVIDIA's dominant position in the AI market.
Details:
The UXL Foundation aims to develop an open-source software suite that prevents AI developers from being locked into Nvidia’s proprietary tech, allowing their code to run on any machine and with any chip.
The project integrates Intel's OneAPI open standard, which removes the need for specific coding languages, code bases, and tools that tie developers to using particular architectures like Nvidia’s CUDA platform.
In addition to the founding members, cloud providers such as Amazon and Microsoft, as well as other chipmakers, will be involved.
It will be intriguing to observe if the UXL's efforts can shift AI development away from Nvidia's proprietary CUDA platform, which has remained the standard for over a decade.
AI RESEARCH
Study Reveals Personalized AI Chatbots Are Alarmingly Persuasive

Researchers have discovered that large language models such as GPT-4 can vastly surpass humans in face-to-face persuasion and debate situations, particularly when equipped with personal information about an individual.
Details:
The study looked at four different debate situations: Human vs. Human, Human vs. AI, Human vs. Human with personalization, and Human vs. personalized AI model.
In the personalized version, the debaters also had access to anonymized background information about their opponents.
The results show that GPT-4, with access to personal information, was able to increase agreement with its positions by a staggering 81.7% compared to human-human debates.
Researchers attribute the persuasive power of personalized AI to its ability to craft finely tuned arguments using insights from a person's profile.
The researchers warn that AI chatbots with even rudimentary personal data could potentially become potent tools of influence, particularly in online environments.

Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly taking a hands-on approach to poaching top AI researchers from rival tech giants. According to sources, Zuckerberg has been personally emailing researchers at Google's DeepMind unit, making a direct pitch for them to join Meta's AI efforts. The company is also said to be offering jobs to candidates without interviews.
We had already seen Noland Arbaugh, Neuralink’s first human patient, playing games like chess. Now, Neuralink has shared a video that shows him playing the popular game "Mario Kart" with his mind. During the video, we can also see Arbaugh take the stage to describe the brain chip's capabilities and his experience with it.
According to Bloomberg's sources, OpenAI is scheduled to meet with studios, talent agencies, and media executives in Los Angeles next week. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss potential partnerships in the entertainment industry and encourage filmmakers to integrate its new AI video generator into their work.
Google's new AI Search is facing a proliferation of spammy and potentially malicious links infiltrating the top ranks of its search engine results pages (SERPs).
Mikhail Parakhin, the current head of Microsoft Corp.'s Bing search engine and advertising businesses, will be stepping down from those roles. This decision comes after the software giant named Mustafa Suleyman to oversee consumer artificial intelligence work and requested that Parakhin report to him.
